Thanks, yes. I've always loved to cook. In the middle of fair baking, we were eating pretty simply (grilled cheese, etc), but did manage to make a homemade pizza one night. I figured, what's one more yeast dough, LOL I love to experiment and develop new recipes. With cooking you can really tweak things a lot. Baking is a bit more scientific, you can vary flavors but there is a basic formula (recipe) you can't deviate from too much without affecting the outcome adversely.
I was always the one trying to see just how fancy of a meal I could prepare while tent camping with my son. Steamed fresh caught crab, homemade ice cream in the campsite with berries we collected, etc. When DH and I go on vacation, we stay in a condo and I still cook more meals than we eat out. We travel to Mexico every year and I always bring baking ingredients in my suitcase, LOL. The timeshare salesmen leave me alone in the supermarket, I don't look like a tourist. The American tourists are buying beer & tequila, I'm buying 5# sacks of flour, oil, potatoes, fresh veggies, etc.
I have entered a few cooking contests too. I've made it past the first round in a few original chicken recipe contests, never made it to the cook off round. I have won chili cook-offs about a half dozen times though
My DH always requests a big pot of chili that he doesn't have to share with anyone every year for his birthday.
