Yes, BAs and Orps are prone to it. I have been feeding to help avoid it since the first one died of it at 9months old.

I think they will if you ask them too. The test reported was Avian Influenza.

I remember Cheryl requesting that they test for certain things like mg. I think that there is a place on the form where you can request they test for other things.

Ok, I need some help. Max My showgirl rooster from CJ exotics is in a separate quarantine and has been for about 2-3 weeks. He lost control of his legs and one of his feet has curled toes. Could Have been pecked in the head, jumped from the top of the cage and hurt himself, or be sick. ( I vaccinated the week before they came for ib and nc, I'm wondering if he could have caught nc from me stepping on poo outside and not cleaning my feet enough. I do not remember doing that, but it could have happened) I HAVE been trying to keep tight q. No one else has any symptoms. I also treated for brain swelling with the appropriate vits, but no help there either. He would get better to wobbly walk, then get worse again.

This afternoon I walked in there and I think he was having a fit. He is not eating enough to stay healthy . I was feeding him wet cat food as a supplement for a while but he is not too interested in that anymore either. Its time to cull and send him into UC Davis to find out whats going on.

How do I cull to send them to Davis? just break his neck? And then tell them what I did?

The fit freaked me out a little so I think I need to do this ASAP. I know it is the right decision, even if he was not contagious or sick, he is not getting better and he won't eat enough to be a healthy chicken, even as a special needs pet.

I figure Someone will know. I jsut dont want to do it wrong and have them not be able to check.

chiquita, they told me that it's actually best if you can submit a live bird. That's because the fresher the bird, the easier it is to get correct results. I've taken live birds in, when I want a diagnosis. They humanely euthanize. And yes, they test for mg, if symptoms call for it.

You can call them and ask them what would be the best way to put him down without causing a problem for their reports. They are nice people. (530) 752-1011

Yes, fits are scary too - I had a dog who went thru gran mal seizures. They are not pleasant to watch...

Chiqita, your posts aren't gross, just part of the hard choices that have to be made, hopefully not that often. If Max was having seizures you acted in his best interest. You gave him a chance to heal if it was an injury. It is so hard dealing with seizures. Sorry you are going through this.

Well, I got home to 4 Serena chicks and 2 pips. Only one is not doing anything yet. It was cold the first few days they were in the incubator so I was not sure when they would hatch.

Apparently they all decided on 4.

Are were as like quail in that they all tend to hatch in a big pop or burst?
