Yeah, that was it, alright! Look what he had his employee do:

He put some old metal barn roofing on it. Since the roof is at an angle, there is a gap at the top. The guy put chicken wire over the gap, which will have to be replaced with something sturdier. Now I have to figure out what to put around the door, so that it is secure, and I can still easily open it. You can't tell, but there is heavy metal mesh on the ground around the pen so that nothing can dig under.

Looks Good Kim. I am so enjoying getting to know my new birds. They are really very sweet and they LOVE canned corn so I have been using that to my advantage. Ozzy makes pig noises as he scarfs it down and he pecks HARD!!. He reminds me of an adolescent boy:. Huge appetite, hasn't grown into himself yet, a little spastic and very endearing. The girls are sweet and surprisingly calm. My DH calls the Dorking "The Pretty One"

When can I expect him to reach sexual maturity? Ozzie, not my DH

Here is what I gave Beakface:

I put a ? on the one light brown egg because it is supposed to be an EE but looks like a Del so wanted to be sure I could tell them apart. Not sure about the white one either but since I have no white egg layers yet I didn't lable it. The BO and BR eggs were probably fertilized by a Golden Comet Roo but possibly a white crested black polish who my aunt banished to the bachelor pad about 2 weeks ago because he was No gentleman with the ladies. I just want to see if she can be a good mommy so I didn't want to spend money on eggs. Next time I have a broody test run I hope Ozzie is makin time with the girls so I will have my own fertles.

Nice capayvalley!

I had the weirdest thing happen this morning. My broody barnevelder had a chick that was zipping last night. So this morning, I went to grab the shell and the chick was still in it. It had zipped all the way around, but got into a position that it couldn't pop the top off. It was not shrink wrapped, the membrane was nice and white. So I pulled off the top of the shell and the chick inside was completely dry and fluffy. It is now cruising around with the other babies. I've never had that happen before in any of my hatches - so weird!

I helped a stuck chick once similar to that. I don't remember if it was fluffy, but it was completely dry. Mine was from an incubator.

Sounds like they are really having the good life now! I can't remember when the last Del cockerel was able to breed, but it was young. Maybe 7 months? I know he was under a year old.

If any one else out there wants some Delawares, I have pullets, cockerels & a cock bird available.

I have the worst luck with broodies. I have 2 broody hens. One has been on the nest for over 4 weeks. The other has been sitting just over 3 weeks. Obviously the eggs must be duds. I hate to just take their eggs away after they have sat for so long. I thought about sticking some of the chicks that (hopefully) Ron is hatching, but those aren't due until July 5. It's 105 today and they aren't even panting, which is strange. I wish that I had chicks to give them.

Can you still find Cornish X chicks at your feed store? Get a few for them and raise to process. Once the hen is done with them, you can feed them out.

And I need your husband's employee to come and build that roof for me. Very nice!

agreed, the roof looks fantastic.

my broody girl (who thankfully is not on eggs yet) can't decide which nest she prefers -- each time i check on her, she's in a different one -- currently sitting on NO eggs instead of one real or two fake ones. hoping she settles down by the time she gets her real eggs!
