I store my feed, grain, etc. in stackable pet food containers that I buy at Costco. They cost around $28 and easily hold a 50 lb. bag of feed. They don't always have them so I try to pick up 1 or 2 when they do. Amazon carries them, too. Here is a pic from amazon.com. Whoops! Sorry the pic is so big!

I picked up two of those at Costco a few months back too. The price there was much better than the price at the feed/pet store. They charge around $45 for one at the feed stores. However, I do like that lid from Home Depot on a cheap or free 5 gallon bucket. That makes the price under $10. That is even better! Thanks for the ideas.

I have currently been trekking back and forth from the garage with the feed to try to keep rodents away, and it just never occurred to me to leave it outside in the run or by the run. Seems so exposed and that it might attract bigger critters like Skunks and Raccoons?

I hope the downsizing goes well and am happy to hear you are going to keep breeding the Amelias as F1. I do love mine and they keep laying eggs in the heat! I was only going to keep three but am happy to have 5 of them.
Yeah, I really like the Amelias but was having a hard time hatching the F1 and F2 at the same time since they look Identical. I am happy just sticking to the F1's since I don't have enough pens for both. Glad you like em.

I have built up a decent sized flock of Cream Legbars and plan to give them a big coop and pasture so I will simply put a couple Crele Pen hens in the flock. Since the egg color is different, I will be able to tell them apart.

I here ya... But I can't decide who goes...
I know it was a super tough decision. I love the Welsmmers and they were really hard to let go since they lay gorgeous eggs, don't go broody and are auto-sexing.

The Swedes are soooooo beautiful and I love that they come is so many cool colors. I have not been too impressed by their production. Unfortunately for them, they live in the coop next to the basque who usually outlay them 2 to 1. The Basque are ridiculously good layers and the eggs are always well shaped with an excellent shell quality. The egg color is about the same between the two so I decided to stick with the Basque.

Re-homing the Lav orps was the most difficult. They are soooo sweet and beautiful. One of the people who bought 3 of them just sent me a video of them in their new home. The lucky birds get to free ranging on her 2.5 acres with a huge lawn and lots of shade. Seing the video made me sooo happy. They got a great home!!!!

Really? I have heard about making jam, pies, wine, etc. from mulberries. I have yet to try it from our mulberries and since I'm off sugar for the summer, it probably won't happen this year. Our chickens and the wild birds get to gorge on them! I love it when the cedar waxwings migrate through. The trees are filled with them! I have a white mulberry in the front yard and 2 black (?) mulberry trees in the back (a female and a male). The female tree is right by my run and shades it wonderfully for most of the year. The white mulberry was here when we moved in but the trees in the backyard were planted by birds and we transplanted them to their current spots. Does anyone know if you have to have a male tree close to a female tree in order for the female one to produce fruit? I guess that I should look that up!
I took an organic gardening class and at the year end party someone brought in Mulberry Wine she had made. It was delicious!!!!!

I am having the hardest time letting go of my roosters! We are keeping two and selling two. Feels like I'm finding adoptive parents for them! LOL! And deciding who stays and who goes!

Emmet the Ameraucana is staying for sure. The hubby wants to keep Brawny the English Orpington.

But that leaves the two Olive Eggers (one blue and one splash)
The blue is beautiful and the splash is my little model and goofball that I love.

Nope. But we only have six hens. And all 10 of them live in a 12'x12' run with a 4'x4' coop. We have five acres, but the coop area is limited space-wise.I'm worried about the orpington fitting through the 12"x12" pop door when he's full grown, LOL!

I really like Roosters--they add a lot to the flock. Limiting to two is a good idea for you.

Sadly I cannot keep roosters in town. I have to hide them at other places. I did have one at my place until he was old enough to Breed the hens in my layer flock.

Maybe if I win the lottery I can buy that place up in Guinda....
