I keep the German birds and they do quite well at the shows. And yes, the Germans took over our American breed and "saved" them when we let them go hatchery for the most part.

I don't remember exactly, but I think I had most of the entry at Stockton

would you be willing to sell me a girl one day even if her man would be sub-standard?

I tried breaking her already. After she squished the babies in the shells, I broke her. She laid for a week, then started sitting again. She can sit there for all I care, she's not getting anything else. I will most likely rehome her.

ohhhh poor squished babies! So if a girl doesn't respond to breaking do you just let her sit there sometimes? I am new to this broody thing so any advice would be great.

Just snapped a picture of a couple of eggs from my legbars. They lay the most amazingly HUGE egg.

I am not a tiny woman, 5'8", so it's not that my hand is small. I wish the blue would photograph true.
Those are huge. I am wondering if it is trick of the camera, but then I compare it to the size of your palm, and nope! Those are big! I am STILL waiting for eggs mind you.....everyone is 13 weeks this weekend. I may have a little egg envy.

Ali I hear ya...My Del pullet I got from Kim is 17 weeks old on Sunday and my other girls are all 12 and 13 weeks. With only 4 of 6 mature girls laying and only 2 of them with any regularity we are experiencing an egg shortage that almost makes Tom glad I more than tripled the size of our flock. At least that's the plus I keep pointing out to him.

Are these single yolk? Are double yolk eggs always larger than standard eggs? I, too, am in egg envy. My 3 pullets are 14-15 week range so will be a while.

Double yolked eggs are usually seamed in the center with a flat spot. That is where the two eggs come together.
