As a followup, The wormer that starts with a V(Valbazen?) is good to use for the second dose 10 days later.

Laura, I hope your girl gets better soon!

Also it is so nice to be here! I am getting frustrated on a certain Black colored, black boned thread. I think I need to stay away from it for a while. They do not seem to learn--it was closed for review a week or so ago and the nastiness is back.

You on this thread are the best!

Ahhhhh yes I was reading that thread :/
I just ordered some eggs today! They ship out in a few hours!

Are you talking about the phillipino chicken?

My vet friends wife used to raise them when she lived there. She says they lay more then 2 eggs a month there...

Green Fire Farms is selling Ayam Cemani chickens now. They are very expensive and there is also an person from Florida that has some. She is selling them on ebay. The chicks that hatched from a $1400 hatching egg auction hatched out looking like Marans.

There have been issues between the three or so breeders with them in the US and Green Fire. There have also been mis communications with breeders that have them in Indonesia. There are a lot of passionate folks on that thread.

The pure ones are supposed to lay 60 eggs a year, so that would be 5 egg a month. The cemani coming to the US look like a version from Norway or Sweden--they are crossed and likely lay more eggs than 60 per year.(Shh, do not post that on the Cemani thread...)

Haha...I was reading that. And I was curious how mine will hatch. Wonder if I'm getting mine from the same place the people in Florida got theirs?! Lol

strange egg!

Lucy the CL seems much the same after three (i think it's been three?) days of isolation, living on her own in the garage. she's definitely eating (chick starter, whole-milk yogurt, mealworms) and drinking (water with save-a-chick vitamins), but still painfully thin, and her once-proud comb has completely drooped over her beak now -- she's not statue-standing, but definitely subdued/low energy -- and i ordered the ivermectin wormer only to have it arrive & discover that i got the wrong kind (injectable, not pour-on).

shoot. wish there was something more i could do for her at this point.

hi lawatt
If your worried about taking the time to order it: I use the horse wormers from my feed stores. A pea size amount for my big hens. Cheap enough, and lasts. I got Zimectrin Gold which covers tapes too because it has Praziquantel. The only thing is if they're overloaded, it is a strong wormer. I believe Valbazen is one people were saying is safer because it's a slow release or doesn't kill off worms all at once. Not sure on that though. I just make sure my dogs don't get it. Ivermectin is poisonous to herding breeds (at least a majority of them).

thanks -- Ivermectin is what i already have here, so i'm giving it a try (Lucy got 1/4cc this morning directly, the rest of the flock is getting it in their waterers) -- Lucy is very weak this morning, i'm not sure she's going to make it, whether it's worms or something else that's caused her to lose so much weight -- but no sense waiting around for a different wormer. so, will see how it goes.

After worms it could be a cancer or reproductive problems.

UCD Will tell you if necessary.

I am hoping it is worms!

Laura
I'll be pulling for Lucy. I'm so sorry she is not doing well.

Someone told me that cl roo marans pullets should be sex linked? Has anyone tried it? Looks like I will have those over the winter while Louie 3 grows out unless I steal some white legbar from deb and ninja a roo there too. But to lose Louie's genes... I loved my Louie.. Decisions..

And while I'm thinking what do you get when you cross cream legbar with the white cream legbar? Is it white or crele or just a mess?

I'm debating everything now.

Also does anyone know about getting a pretty trained lgd? I have 1/2 talked mario into it but we are dog novices no way I could train one myself.
