anyone in sonoma/marin counties care for some extra hatching eggs? (or have an incubator to spare?) the marans breeder in Texas sent me WAY more eggs than i was expecting -- we'd discussed 12, she sent 25, although 4 broke so there's "only" 21 -- plus i have 7 isbar eggs from Mary the Sheriff, and my incubator only holds 20 eggs. thought i could share the wealth!

and, some of the eggs were sticky from the broken ones -- i wiped them off with a paper towel but didn't want to wash them -- will they be okay to incubate?

OOOH, Marans eggs to hatch!

The way to clean them is to rinse them with about 90degree water and the dry them off. The egg shell needs to be cooler than the water to keep bacteria from being pulled into the egg.

if they just have a bit of egg white, though, can that just be wiped off? none got yolky, and none of the broken eggs were bad -- just a bit damp at one end from the breakage...

these are some combination of birchen, BBS, and/or duckwing marans, i can't quite figure out some of the markings on the eggs -- and the eggs are all nice and dark.

i hadn't thought of double-stacking -- might give it a try! all the eggs are resting right now from their postal adventure, but will try loading it up tomorrow... (can they go all three weeks double-stacked?)

If only I had room in my flock! I have my uncles incubator right now and could hatch them for you. It is styrofoam, and is a pain to get the humidity right though.

see, i'm spoiled already by my one use of the Rcom, which does everything itself -- plus i'm not home enough to do frequent during manually. i'll be fine with just setting 20 total, just hate to "waste" the extras!

You can take out the clears in 10 days will give you more room.

although these are dark enough shells, i'm not sure how effective my candling will be? but it's worth a try, at least to see how the double-stacked ones work with the egg turner...
