Hooray!!!! Go Silkie chicks! I just wormed all my chickens and repeated after 10 days. I didn't see any but the girls had messy butts and runny pooh. Now its back to normal.
Can't wait! There are a few that will be surprise colors since the lavender pen produces lavender and blacks. Same with her paint pen with a black rooster and paint rooster and hens. The blue/splash could be blue or splash. I love these mixed colored hatches!

I noticed runny dropping so figured it was time to worm again, but yuck! seeing worms is disgusting!!!

Last night I dreamed that I walked by a box of silkies and one of them jumped on my shoulder and nuzzled me. I think it's a sign.
What a neat dream! Sounds like it is time for Silkies!

for a good hatch, how many are in lockdown?

Interesting recommendation on the feed - mine got fermented feed (Flock Raiser) with everybody else. The broody raised chicks are eating exactly what the adults are eating, nothing special. Well that combination will certainly kick-start the feather growth!

Yes, worms are icky. When you see them you have LOTS. Go Get Them!
13 eggs are in lockdown

Candled night before last and all the chicks were moving, but I never count on them all hatching. Hoping though!

I think feeding the Kaybee may be a little over the top, but I am so afraid of loosing chicks that I thought I would follow her advice this time.

Yes, there must be lots of worms, which has me really upset! I worm regularly too!

My Silkie eggs are hatching EARLY!

They went into lockdown yesterday and were due to hatch on Thursday! So far one porcelain and one blue/splash have pipped. I have to go turn on the heat lamp in the brooder to get things warmed up. These guys are going to be spoiled! The brooder is in the guest bedroom and as Catdance Silkies recommended they will be fed Kaytee hand feeding formula mixed with boiled egg yoke for the first few weeks. Hoping for a good hatch!

SO excited for my first Silkies!

On another note . . . all the talk about worms and worming, I saw for the very first time worms in my chickens droppings this morning! Yuck! I blame it on the ground squirrels moving in this past year. We were able to get rid of them all for now. Everyone gets wormed tomorrow!!
Congrats on the babies!

I haven't seen any worms yet, but I've been thinking about worming mine. I've been waiting to see when their production slows a bit more, but I want to do it before the new pullets start laying. I'm going to do one coop at a time, so I'm not completely out of eggs.

This article was shared on the Bresse thread. http://www.aviculture-europe.nl/nummers/07E02A04.pdf So, does anyone in the US have the grey (silver penciled) Bresse??? I love how they look and they would be an awesome addition to my black and white chicken collection!

You have a black and white collection too??? Mine is a work in progress.

I have my Black Australorps, Delawares, CA Grey...she is cuckoo and Petunia my avatar.

Am hatching SPW as we speak picking up Silver Grey Dorkings in the next 2 weks and have specific plans for Mottled Javas, SPRs and Bue Isbars w/i the next 8 mos

In the future I see Bresse White or Birchen (sp) Marans, Pita Pintas, Lakenvelders Silver Campines, BBS Ameraucauna, Blue Australorps and these http://www.cedarcreekhatchery.com/Cedar-Creek-Bluebell-Super-Layers-1069.htm.

Add in my NHs and we will have a red white blue grey silver and black and an egg basket with everything from white to blue to green to dark brown sounds perfect against the green grass right??

That's my strategy too. I have 3/7 layers in the young girls pen and 6/10 in the combo pen.

What about with Beakface and the chicks that are due in 8/9 days? Can the babies handle the wormer or should I do pen that doesn't have chicks first and wait? How old do they need to be before I worm them?

Wait until the chicks are 12 weeks old to worm them.

They should be fine until then.

After grousing about my Icelandics and suspecting them of being egg hiders, I came home to an Icelandic egg in the nest box
big_smile.png
Of course they have been locked up all day...coop training the General so I am sure that helped her in her decision of where to actually put it. It is quite a bit pointier than the CA Grey egg and the Polish/Dorking egg and decent sized

Pretty sure Rue laid it. Gonna go snap some chick shots while they are penned up.
