California - Northern

Yes Ron, they lay medium to large sized white eggs.

That sounds good but they would probably fly over the fence and get eaten by the neighbors dog.

I do need to find a nice white egg layer. I should get some SG Dorkings I guess....

Talked to the lady with the chickens today (someone we know, at least to recognize and know where we know her from) and she's got older birds, too (of course, I didn't think to ask how old "older" is...) and some younger. One of the hens is a mystery bird--anyone know what she is? Or is it not a good pic for ID purposes? I hadn't been wanting any plain white birds, but she's pretty.

You have a black and white collection too??? Mine is a work in progress.

I have my Black Australorps, Delawares, CA Grey...she is cuckoo and Petunia my avatar.

Am hatching SPW as we speak picking up Silver Grey Dorkings in the next 2 weks and have specific plans for Mottled Javas, SPRs and Bue Isbars w/i the next 8 mos

In the future I see Bresse White or Birchen (sp) Marans, Pita Pintas, Lakenvelders Silver Campines, BBS Ameraucauna, Blue Australorps and these http://www.cedarcreekhatchery.com/Cedar-Creek-Bluebell-Super-Layers-1069.htm.

Add in my NHs and we will have a red white blue grey silver and black and an egg basket with everything from white to blue to green to dark brown sounds perfect against the green grass right??
Love it! I like blues and lavenders, too, but then I really think that they are all different shades of grey!

My black, white, and blues include:

Black Australorp
Barred Rocks
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Black, white, blue, and splash Langshans
Pita Pintas
White Am Bresse
Lavender Ameraucanas
Coronation Sussex

I think that's it but I could be missing someone!

Had the ADOR auto-door installed today.

Also had John move the nest-box wall unit backing board from the adjacent wall to the same wall as the chicken door. (Luckily, John used screws instead of nails -and I knew this - so it wasn't a hugely labor intensive task. Time, .....well, I am "the customer.")

My rationale was realizing, in the original configuration, all the traffic through the chicken door would pass directly in front of one or more nest boxes in the bottom row. This would contribute to an even less private sensation for the not-very-private boxes. So, with the auto-door on the same wall as the nest unit, then most of the chicken traffic would pass to the side. Said nest unit needs to be removed from the home coop and cleaned before transporting it to the new coop. There was some eye-rolling at my explanation of nest box privacy issues. (Heck, there may be some eye-rollers amongst BYCers reading this.) :plbb

Don't frogs lay eggs in water? I found some clear, jelly like eggs in my worm bin. What could they be? It's moist in there but not sitting water

They are probably from a different insect like pincher bugs.
