@PetRock I'm so sorry to hear about your health condition. How awful. I knew someone who had lupus and she had the same symptoms. What if you used a zinc oxide based sun block? Could your diet change have caused this? Maybe you are lacking something in your diet now?

@lawatt Glad to hear that your bobcat has probably moved on. Good to see your new coop. My current coop construction is taking a loooooong time to complete.

In general the bigger bodied they are the longer it takes. But take heart. I have 5 late April girls 2 small bodied 3 large that have not yet started laying either:/ . Last year 5 of my early May girls waited until the first week in Dec. It will happen :)
Marans take 25 weeks or so but with lower hours of light at this time of the year it will take a bit longer. The average for all breeds is 11 weeks. Leghorns and the Brown hybrids start from 16 to 20 weeks old and are the earliest. Wellsummers seem to be one of the latest.
. Eleven weeks is average? Nooo, that's got to be a typo, right? You meant to type 22 weeks, right? :th

Yeah, I figured typo as well. Just wouldn't want a boo boo to start being passed around as fact

Time of year (length of daylight) makes a difference of course, but the breed is usually the biggest determining factor for me. Icelandics, campines, lakenvelders, etc are my earliest. But I have some real "stubborn" breeds that try to wait forever! The "big ones", orps etc wait and my polish seem to take forever.

Good reason to keep several hundred birds......

..........someone is always laying.

Although right now I seem to be up to my kneecaps in feathers on the ground. I literally have hundreds (and hundreds) of chickens and getting less than a dozen eggs per day. In fact several times in the last week, I just get the three I need to fix breakfast in the morning. Yesterday I baked brownies, I had to put in one small bantam eggs and fill it out with a few quail eggs. The quail are still laying fairly well, so maybe I'll fry a dozen eggs for breakfast today

Hello All,
I'm in the Central Valley and have some extra's I'd like to sell. Two pairs of Partridge Rocks (great dual purpose birds!) at 15 weeks. All organic, free range. How do I get to the classifieds and is it possible to advertise for local areas only? These chickens are great but they are taking up room in the hen house. I'm switching to more rare breeds. Just got 11 Swedish Flower Hens (chicks) from Greenfire!
Thanks,
Rebecca

Yes! Very supportive.

There is a guy here on campus that must have the same thing. He is covered pretty much from head to toe.

I hope you can figure out what is making your skin\immune system react this way.
From the research that I have done, no one knows what causes it. If I can get it healed up, there is a lotion that helps prevent it when you have to go out in the sun.

Hi @CackleJoy !

They is a Buy Sell Trade section of the forum. Start a thread there and then add a link to the thread in your signature line. Then post message like the one quoted above on the local threads.

Please post pictures of your Partridge Rocks. Where did you get them?

That sounds like a cool cross too. What color are the d'Uccles?

Yes, there is a chance of silkied feathers when crossed back to Dad - as long as the girls give the kid the silkied feather gene and not the regular feathered one. 50% chance - per chick.

You can help out on the theory too - just check the leg color on the boys vs the leg color on the girls. In his case the girls "should" have black legs and the boys "should" have light legs...
The d'Uccles are Mille Fleur. They are just about 3 months old at this point so hopefully by the time they start laying and I have a broody to hatch their eggs I will remember this :) It is fun to speculate about what you might get with random pairings.

Thanks to all of you for the support! I love this thread!

Kelly, Let's talk about Wellies after yours hatch! I think that the girls that I have aren't the best quality but they are what I have to start with. I'll try to get some pics of them to show you.
I just wanted to let you know that I am sorry as well. That has to be tough. Does it happen on cloudy days too?

I really like the looks of my new EEs and will share pics with you one when I can get some good ones is blue laced buffish the other is black with gold and white flecks but mostly black. The gal from whom I got them says that they are laying but I don't know because she also said that since she isn't home when they are doing it she doesn't know who lays what. She has about 16 hens/pullets and gets about 10 eggs a day soooo who knows. The blue laced girl looks ready the black one not so much.

One of my April EEs was nosing/beaking around the nest box this morning

I am just excited to see what colors they produce so I can see if I HAVE to add true Ameraucanas this year or not

Add Langshans into the very late category. I think that my girls don't lay until around 30 weeks.

Thank you! I will work on that. Right after I take care of art for 12 3rd graders. Groan
