California - Northern

I was wondering if anyone in Northern CA (north of Sacramento...Butte County would be even better) might have some EE pullets for sale. I really want some blue or green eggs and the EE I bought from our local feed store looks like is going to be a rooster. I prefer pullets due to the time of year, but if someone will have chicks or eggs in the spring that would work too.

We have a doe that lives on the back portion of our property, raises her fawns here each year. The only time they challenge the fence is in the fall, we don't have much left in the ground for them to eat but they do try if they find a gap they think they can get through. It's like herding cats trying to get them back out the gates once they get inside.

Thanks...we are trying to figure out a way to cover the run that won't look like poo. It is a former dog run so we made sure the coop itself is secure against predators but the darned Jays are really irritating me. For today maybe I will just take a feed sack and drape it over the top of the door and roof. can you send a photo of your run?

I remember last spring I thought I had egg eaters and someone said this too. You told me I probably only had opportunists and you were right. Turns out then I had brittle shells because I was feeding layer but no extra calcium corrected that problem and no more broken shells in the nests.
I took it down couple of months ago when we covered the whole top with wire. The Jays didn't get in, but one evening a hawk was perched on their house looking in on them. So the whole coop is covered now. But the other way didn't look bad because it was only a small amount. It hung out at the angle like 2-3 feet and the sides were completely open, if that makes sense. I think it was no longer an easy in and out for the Scrub Jays. They went on to stealing wild birds eggs instead. I think the feed sack would work too. You may have to trim it to size size there is no prohibiting going back in the coop.

I mentioned for Christmas I wanted an incubator. I through out my trashed hova bator a while back. So my husband said "Hey find the baddest hatcher thing you wanted, and where to buy it. I'm getting you that for Christmas". Of course he probably doesn't know the baddest can be upwards of $400+. I'm thinking of the Brinsea 20 without humidity regulation. Do you mind sharing what you all have?

In the last couple of weeks I have seen a big increase in the number of dead animals on the roads. Lots of deer, racoons, skunks. So much so that it actually entered my awareness that there have been a lot lately.
I'm wondering that since it may be mating season, the are so preoccupied with that and not paying attention. Plus going further distance. Funny how that works

I love my Octagon 20 ex advance. I get great hatches in it and I really like how I don't have to worry about temp and humidity anymore. Practically set and forget! Yesterday I almost forgot to ad water to the humidity pump

In my defense, the incubator is set up in the basement guest room. All 12 of the golden cuckoo Marans pullet eggs I set are growing and due to hatch on the 21st
