Haha!! Reminds me if the "I love Lucy" episode where she is doing the commercial for the green vitamin stuff lol!!
Yes Vitavitavegimin? Vegavetavitmin. The more drunk she got the better the names she came up with!

Men at work!
More terms from that song
Glow= sweat
Chunder= vomit.
Uhhhhh ok, to this day I didn't realize Chunder was a word in the song. Where women Glow and men Chunder..... I get it now, but didn't even think about it being a word. And since I was listening to this song before the internet, I had to wonder for so long was Vegemite was. I figured it was maybe like spam! lol

Anywho...... anyone know of a day care/pet sitter in the Roseville and 20 mile surrounding area? I have a puppy that needs some TLC during the day while I am at work.

Also, random question, what causes combs to flop over? I have two of the same breed and one comb fell over and one hasn't. They aren't exceptionally large either.....

Once you have ONE head rooster that has good manners, all his sons/foster sons can learn from him. Some are still poop heads, but I am sure so many of my roosters are well tempered becuse they are under such gentlemen. Orlando Louie 1 and 2 were good head boys. .Flame is good natured too > all the roosters like flame and ( sadly for my breeding plans since he is an escape artist) will let him breed with all but the most favored hens. except for clovis, he keeps flame and his smooth tounged ways away from his dog run! Flame does not dance in front of the Breese run any more.. I had ONE mean showgirl rooster that got eaten, and bro learned to be bad from the guinea, who was a bully!

We are under a sever frost warning till thursday! I have to drag all my potted plants in and the seremas too. I'm debating taking the young chicken under a heat lamp out of the garage, in case they cant stay warm enough, its COLD out there...

Thanks!

Gonna pull in the Orchids!

i have to say I've never been happier with a rooster i've had. I now have 2: 1 is a Lav. AM and he's horrible. He harasses the girls, he hides in the pen for his own safety while his girls free range, and when a new hen comes around he chases the dickens out of her. BUT my marans cockerel is the best. I let both flocks together last week. To my surprise, the big marans didn't try to kill the other one. But he did lay down the law and put the Lav in his place. The marans didn't chase the other, but would not permit harassing/breeding. He broke up some of the hens fighting too. I put both groups together for short periods for the purpose of integrating 3 from one flock to the other. Well I finally did the full time integrating of the 3 hens into the other flock, but I put the marans in too. I think it's gone well. I think with him being in there, it has had less of fighting and picking between all the girls. He doesn't' harass, he just does his job. The lav AM cockerel is outside of them all looking in for a while. He is not happy.
I've never had a rooster that is so mellow and even put up with another rooster to some point. Pleasantly surprised.

my birchen marans cockerel (27 weeks old) is similarly mellow, he's transitioned nicely into the older girls' coop, and is mostly tolerant of smaller cockerels -- although when blue the isbar started trying to make a few moves in the girls, Jack chased him off. I'm increasingly sold on my marans, they are great birds!

and as an added bonus, i got a first pullet egg from my second isbar/marans cross today -- so, both of the crosses are laying, plus the birchen marans pullet, all of whom are 27-30 weeks old -- and two of the older girls are still laying too. not bad for Dec 2nd!

On the song: I know! I would sing it and wonder if I'm just making up words cause I wasn't sure what they were saying! Thanks @chiqita - it all makes sense now. kind of gross about the chunder tho. And CUTE puppy!! Is it a poodle/maltese cross?

So is it normal for the dominant roo to let the other one mate? Whenever I had two they fought so bad I had to get rid of one. So I never found out before. I'm just really surprised that this guy is wonderful.

The 8 babies(2 weeks) are under mama, does anyone think they'll be warm enough. Their pen is pretty closed up. They have some shavings but not really deep. Will get more tomorrow. I could put a 150W bulb out there.

As long as she is well covering them they will be fine. I only worry when it floods out there. I look like a wet rat hauling angry silkies and there babies inside if it floods.

2 roosters will fight more then 3 I have heard. Some roosters are more protective of "their" hens then other roosters.

Flame seems to be an acception. Everyone loves him. He is the ferris Buller of roosters.

Yup he surely is! Good guess. Maltipoo is what they call a mutt when they want to charge more.

So okay another question. I just opened my bag of chicken food and it has a bunch of those small brown beetles in it. Can I feed this or not? I know they eat bugs all day long but i vaguely recall something about not feeding buggy food? Anyone??
