She was talking about donating eggs to the Food Bank after hearing about a Fatal car crash.

That is a very sad story.
A terrible thing! This young widow will depend heavily on community support for a while.

Quote: Yes I was thinking that too. They also have a fund set up for donations. The mother said it would be 6 months worth of income needed for them before any other funds may kick in to help them. Poor family. But people fro all over the county have been moved and are pitching in to help. That is so incredible to see. People from other counties too.

That is great to hear!(That a lot of people are stepping up to help)

Is she chasing them away or trying to teach them to roost yet? that usually what I see firstfirst.
She isn’t chasing them away. She let’s them roam a bit and only calls them if she plans on going a ways off.
I’ll keep an eye on those things. I just don’t want to get caught with her not keeping them warm on these cold nights.
I don’t have a roost set up yet. Hopefully soon. My DH just covered an outside pen for their coop today. Totally fenced it off and top is hawk proof :) No free ranging while I’m not there, but this way they have nice soft dirt to play in. I’ll give him some time before I make another request for my birds.
I’m praying she stays with them until they’re a bit more feathered. Hopefully she can be a reliable mom for me in the future. Do hens improve with each hatch as a mom, or is it as good as it gets?

My almost 6 mos. old NH started to lay this week. I am not using any artificial lights as well.

I really like your New Hampshires. It is great that Walt let you have some of them from His Flock.

Great Picture!

Hi Ron, Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I feel quite fortunate; and, am grateful to Walt Leonard, for entrusting his gorgeous birds with me. Lual

1000

I need some of those too lol

I am getting a dozen a day and have pullets starting to lay. The pullets that are starting do not have light. I have a Christmas LED string on one pen and a light in one coop.

I set 14 Amelia(Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca) hens crossed with a Crele Penedesenca for the NYD hatch a long. In a couple of days I will candle and see if the Boy was doing his job! I did check one last week and it looked fertile.

I can not wait to see the chicks Ron. This should be the first cross back
Keeps deer and rabbit out of the garden too.
not in mine. I finally just covered my runs. i was using cd's and reflective tape. lots of deer here too. Our area deer seem to be tame though lol
