I got another wonderful surprise today! The chickens have learned to use the nipple warterers. I bought some last month and put them up last week. I threw some scratch under them but they were being ignored.

Yesterday I saw my head chicken ca tiling and some young breese using it! And this morning the breese were using the other one.

They will not run out of water when we are away now! I'm so happy.

That is amazing that you are getting all those eggs! I haven't seen an egg for weeks!

I will share! It is only myself and my daughter. I have gotten 2 dozen in the last 4 days, and although we do like egg salad sandwiches, fried egg sandwiches, eggs over easy, scrambled eggs, deviled eggs...... we just can't eat them all!

nice eggs you got there
Hi Ali!

You are getting very nice eggs!
Beautiful eggs Ali!

FINALLY, I got a pullet egg from one of my Barnies yesterday.

They are a couple weeks shy of 9 months old.
Thanks! I am liking them. I am surprised that the Orp eggs are such a light brown with a heavy bloom. My Splash Barnie is 8 and 1/4 months and started yesterday.

I have one Bresse Pullet that was scalped. She roosts on a pallet at night so is not near any lights(I pick her up each night and carry her to the coop). She lays an egg every other day with now lights! Of course she will not lay her egg in the coop. I am hoping that she will integrate better some day.
She was recently scalped?

I love my nipple waterer. People did look at me a little odd when I said my nipples froze last week...... but then I had to explain that it was my Chicken Nipples. They still looked at me odd!

Mayonnaise, Lemon or other curds, Angel food cake. Ice cream. Cream Berle,

Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, Egg puffs for Breakfast, Quiche for dinner....

My Bresse was scalped last summer. She is fine but missing some feathers--she looks like a Naked neck a bit. She is an odd one though....

I am going to try the water nipple system again. I did have some that figured out a bottle with a rabbit nipple so they should figure it out this time.

I did not want to risk it in the summer so they had a water fountain too. They ignored the nipple water--Lazy I suppose.

I do find that if they have a water source, such as a puddle of water, to dip into they prefer that, but this is sooooo much cleaner. The area under the waterer does get wet, but since I am on cement, all I have to do is move the shavings every night and they dry.

Mine is a simple 5 gallon HO Depot bucket with 5 screw in nipples in the bottom.

My 6-7 month old New Hamps are laying like crazy with existing light.

@Ali707 Your eggs look gorgeous!

@chiqita and @Happy Chooks Yay for new layers. It never gets old.

@ronott1 You sound like me...It's all fine now but up until this weekend I had several who played hide and seek with me every dusk....makes it tough to go out of town.

I am still getting 10-13 too w/o light. I have a molter, a broody who struggling to cover her 7 week olds, Della and 4 who haven't yet begun to lay so that makes 15 potential layers continuing to fill the basket. I also have a colleague who is giving me duck eggs and now that we are done worming things are picking up.

I saw the Meyer Meal Maker (or something like that) referenced last week and learned that Meyer hatchery will include a freebie chick if you ask for one with the stipulation that you are asked to donate either its eggs if it's a pullet or the equivalent amount of meat if it is a cockerel to a local food bank. I thought it was a nice idea though I wasn't going to order from them to do it. Then a local young father was killed in a car accident on his way home from work last Friday leaving a pregnant wife and four little girls. I have a fb group of local chicken keepers and we have been asked to collect and donate eggs for them....So we are going to do for them what we can. it is so so sad.

Gaa it won't quote for me this morning. I blame my lack of kit cat!!
Ali I see why we can be such great friends! People look at me oddly all the time. It could be a profession.
