Good eye, that male was Reserve of Show last season. Walt
Yes! And they don't stop growing. I believe we won't be able to keep the drakes over a couple of years. I have heard they get too big for then hens and I believe it. The girls can still fly but the boys never can. The rouen muscovies are supposed to be the most tasty birds. Of course I have yet to eat #1 my extra drake. He was going to be Christmas dinner but my dad got a detached retina so we are going to see him instead. Princess pea does not like #1 and is very annoyed with me.

I absolutely love those ducks! How beautiful! Where are your Shamos from originally? Are they a Thai chicken?

I got the Shamo's from Dragon Lady- Suzann Chung who imported them from Great Britain and Japan. The males are 32-33 inches tall. The black female Shamo below weighs 9 lbs, so you can see how big this male is.

This is the head of one of my Asils. Note the beak.

These Oriental breeds are not beginner birds. they have a lot of extra work involved.

Wow, they are stunning! I bet your bantams look extra tiny compared to these guys! I quite a few colors of English Orpingtons that hatched with some Barnevelders and the size difference is amazing as they grow!

The Shamo's take three years to max out. Yes, there is a huge difference in sizes between these and bantams. These big birds really like people.....which is a good thing for many reasons. This big guy almost kicked the door to his pen out when I surprised him one evening. As you can guess this breed is very primitive in it's behavior.
Female with a rat......not a mouse.....a rat. This is a big female. 9.5 lbs.

when I built my runs I put them in the pasture to keep the needles from falling into the netting. well poor chickens are in the only place on the property with real snow still 1 week later .
it has melted under the trees and on the slope areas.

I got more netting to cover one run and finish the other one that is only 3/4 covered yesterday as well. should keep the silver ameraucana in. they like to fly
do you mind if I ask what kind of netting you use? I found some on amazon. it’s cheaper but not sure about the quality.
