I like this picture and am impressed that the chickens did not eat the peppers....

It is very hard to get the true darkness of an egg when taking a picture. It does help to put them next to come other colors. I am very impressed with these Partridge Penedesencas so far.![]()
HOLY COW!!!That thing is so cool!!! You can really tell how dark they are when you see them with a "brown" egg.![]()
How do I know how much Tylan 50 to give a 10lb Cockerel? Our boy is now barking/coughing. Thank goodness the rest of the flock is fine. Not a sneeze, sniffle, wheeze or whiffle to be heard. (Yes, I have done my Dr. Suess time, have you?)
Anyway, I digress. The coughing cockerel calamity continues ...
He is on liquid disp. antibiotics with no visible improvement. I'd like to give him something stronger as he's everyone's favorite. Don't want him dying! Is it a problem to give him Tylan after being on the other antibiotics? How does one go about figuring dosage? Label use is for bovine types.
Those are beautiful eggs! What breed lays the one that looks sort of grey? That is a really neat color!
Wait, who laid that dark one?!? Wow, love it! if it's not a marans may have to get me some of those, and some Olive Eggers

Ditto.Unfortunately when you make pets out of the roosters they loose their fear of you and don't respect you as head of the flock. Many well known breeders have suggested not to tame your roosters. You need to find a way to scare him into submitting to you. Bring a broom into the pen and go straight at him with it until he runs away from you. Each time you come into the pen, first thing you do is walk towards him and make him move away from you to let him know YOU own the hens. This has worked for me with most of my roosters. The ones it didn't work on have been sent to the auction.
Sorry you are having rooster trouble. Hope this works for you.
Nice eggs, congrats!I think one of my chickens from Jason laid me an egg.I think it was a Penedesenca. I'm still waiting on the others to start. And I got 4 eggs today (out of like 30 chickens). When they all finally start laying again I will have way more eggs than I can handle.![]()
If he isn't responding to an antibiotic, then I wouldn't try another one. That tells me that whatever he has isn't bacterial. I've heard of roosters mating with stuffed animals and peoples feet.Do roosters ever try to mate people or is it always just an attack?
I had a rooster attack me while I was delivering mail last year. The lady had him in her front yard (separated from her 3 hens in the back) because he was "mean" to them. I don't know he was there at first and he got me when I was walking away. He hit me on the back of my let with his spur. I went through my pants and my sock, and put a little hole in my leg.I've heard of roosters mating with stuffed animals and peoples feet.
Mostly with people, it's a flogging. It happens lightening fast and can hurt too. I had one rooster that broke a blood vessel in my leg and gave me a grapefruit size bruise. I've had a puncture wound by the spur through jeans, by the same rooster. This rooster was fine with my kids, fine with the DH and fine with strangers. But for some reason, he decided I was a threat. He was gone the day I bent down to fill a waterer and he went for my head.
