arghh not sure about these Sandhill Black Penedesenca.
I have been watching one limp around the last month or so.

today I was moving the blacks to another run with a few ameraucana and easter eggers.
picked her up again. her foot seems fine. don't see a fracture or bumble foot.
However she has a decent size lump ( tumor or abscess ) right above her leg on her back.
she has been eating and drinking ok and has pretty good weight.

Im actually wondering if maybe its dislocated. anyhow since I moved the younger ones to there new runs I isolated her in the Dogloo chicken coop so she's next to her friends but not with them till I can decide what to do with her.

I did loose a black a few months back that was really thin. almost thinking there was just a issue with the SandHill birds

My Black Pene Blends right in with the Layer Flock. I have to look at her closely to make sure she is not one of my Hatchery Australorps.

Well the raccoon managed to get 4 of my Seramas, 1 hen 3 pullets I am so upset with myself. Only found one body but presume all are dead...it got ahold of one of my EEs brought her to the back door and that's what woke me up at 3 am, raccoon was standing there and I wanted to shoot it but live in town. Brought all the others in the garage so they would be safe. So the thing to do is trap it and shoot it right?

I am so sorry! That must have been awful for you! I have no advice but I am sure you will get good wisdom here.

Godiva has been playing at being broody for weeks but would always get off the nest for treat time. Yesterday she never laid and she has been daily for weeks and then in the pm she stuck in the nest box even when I tossed in a little scratch and some cat food...hmmmm If she is serious I will try her out on some of the eggs laied by my CA Grey. I love candling white eggs...it is so rewarding.

On the other hand she may decide that breakfast is too hard to pass up and get up this morning

I look forward to the dual purpose chicks I hope to get from crossing the CG with either my NH or Del boys. Growing out one of her and Ozzy's cockerels right now but want some pullets. Also curious if they produce a sex link. This little boy was hatched jet black with a head dot and has feathered out cuckoo...almost silver cuckoo and very pretty. Curious if the little girls would have their own look. Pretty sure that mating her with the NH roo would result in a black sex link since she is cuckoo so that will be useful!

The coop residents are up early today. Crowing and cackling since about 6:40 but it is still too dark to let them out. They do not sound pleased.

Do any of you have a scolder?? A girl who gives you the business every time you are within earshot? My Polish/Dorking is a crack up...I can hear her grumbling when I leave the house on my way to let them out and she always has things to say. When Tom was building the most recent pen she advised him and inspected his work...She is his favorite now
