She's beautiful! And on alert!

I love her comb.
That is a nice version of a Coronation or Kings Comb.

She wants me to give her a treat for sure!

I set them! My first batch ever! I'm super excited! Thanks for the info and links. Lots of info. I have a feeling this will be a great learning experience. :)

Now I have the goal to get Seramas! Some how... Hopefully Deb will get back soon so I can get some from her!!! Maybe even some adults. And I can also order some eggs from Shanti but the more I read the less I think I'll have good luck with doing it that way... (Shipped egg hatch rate and the fact that their Seramas and I'm new at hatching) but I will try if that's what I have to do to get my hands on them!

I took our Serama (Sunshine) and an egg she laid to my daughters preschool today for sharing! The kids and teachers LOVED it! :)

Ron I called my feed store and they said they don't have Organic flock raiser... She said I can do Organic chick start (20% protein) and do the calcium on the side. Is that good? If so how long so I do that for? And then if I change what do I go to?

Yes, chicken starter is the same as grower. That is what I feed my breeders and roosters. feed the King Feed Freedom GMO Free when I can get it.

I know Stockton is the big show, and so everyone is focussing on that right now (whether they can go or not), but is anyone going to the Humboldt Poultry Fanciers Association winter show? Other than @OR4-hmom and my family? It's at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale on February 7-9, so 2 weeks after Stockton. I figure, since people are doing presales for Stockton, maybe some presales could be arranged for that, too?

Have any of you treated for bumble foot with Duramycin? Harriet was limping on friday so I moved her into the powder room. we have been soaking it every night and removed a sort of greenish plug of scabbiness coating it with neosporin and dressing it with a fresh dressing. She isn't roosting but is living in a dog crate and has free run of the bathroom which she doesn't seem to mind. She even laid an egg yesterday and she isn't limping at all anymore. There never was a lot of redness and it seems I caught it really early.

I have some of the oral tetracycline powder but it says it is for sinus infection and doesn't mention bumblefoot. However I did find on the Livestrong website that it is incated for people with staph infections of the skin and soft tissue so it seems like that would work. Your thoughts?

Anyone know which states you can't ship chicks to if you're not npip?
Technically, you are not supposed to ship outside of your resident state unless you are NPIP. With that said, there are plenty of people who do. Many states require that you are NPIP, but they do not verification with parcel. Virginia and HI are very strict and the NPIP # need to accompany parcel. As far as I understand, eggs are even restricted to VA and HI.

There was a list of restrictive states on one of the forums. I think it was the Heritage Large breed. I will see if I can find it for you.

Oh, I read further and see that Ron found the link for you. Here it is again. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/animal_imports_states.shtml As Ron mentioned, most states ignore the required paperwork, but VA and HI are strict and require all poultry to be NPIP. The funny thing is: from what I hear VA does not have an NPIP program. I have not verified that rumor but if that is actually true I find their strict requirements Ironic.
