Ohhhh!

What do you have? Woodland isn't that far away from me, my mother and I drove up to Lincoln for some silkies one day, that was quite the experience.
LOL! Anyway, what breeds do you have?

I have Partridge Penedesencas, Olive egg laying chickens and Pita Pintas coming up for hatching.

I have a mix of other breeds though.

Be careful if you live where it gets very very hot in the summer. If you give them too much corn they can overheat very easily.

Thank you for the info. The Kruse mash they are on has the first ingred. of cracked corn. I just wish to get them on a yellow crumble.

Well... Between my mother-in-law and myself, because I am totally her enabler! We are looking for (mainly pullets or hens)
-black copper marans
- Lavender Orpington
-Jubilee Orpington
-Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
-Silver Laced Wyandotte
-Barnevelder
-EE-ers
-any type of Polish
-millie fleur
-partridge cochin & silkie

Like I said above, I had about 17 hens and 4 roo's not too long ago, nice ones at that. Well, there was a dog who kept getting out of his owners yard, we deemed him as a stray because they didn't even try to catch him anymore and he ripped through my coop and had himself a chicken dinner :/  I was devastated, the poor animal control guy had to deal with me being a sobbing mess, at least he cleaned up the wreckage. I don't know if there is a limit on how many I can have, uhmmm.... I don't really care if there is, either. I'm assuming with about 20 I was still in the safe zone. because AC didn't say anything to me about the number I had. I will stop when a) My husband cuts me off. b) I run out of room or c) I just cant handle anymore, being as I have about 10 empty acres I'm going to say its a safe bet that none of the above will happen, I have a man who loves fresh eggs! lol! 

You poor thing. That would be me for sure. I am so sorry for your loss.

I will be trying to hatch silver PENCILED wyandottes in the spring but I am pretty far north of you. SPW are more rare and I think at least as pretty. My last hatch ended up being a bust. I got two boys out of 8 eggs so am going for it again. Hopefully I will get a couple of girls next go around. If I do and you want to make a trip up here I will be happy to share.

I will be trying to hatch silver PENCILED wyandottes in the spring but I am pretty far north of you. SPW are more rare and I think at least as pretty. My last hatch ended up being a bust. I got two boys out of 8 eggs so am going for it again. Hopefully I will get a couple of girls next go around. If I do and you want to make a trip up here I will be happy to share.

This thread makes me smile. One thread is headed for moderation today....Odd because a couple of Mods frequent that thread. It is only a matter of time I suppose and it will be fixed! That is a great thing about BYC.

Me too! I am going to stop giving her eggs if she can't incubate a girl every now and then


It is, the moderators are great and really responsive. It's like every special interest board I have ever been on though from college bound students to fitness....people feel free to be unkind on line where they never would IRL They get all judgey and superior and the people with questions often get intimidated. This thread and the little broody hatching thread I am on (not the enormous one) make me smile.

It is, the moderators are great and really responsive. I hope the NYD Hatch a long thread felt like this one. I worked on it and all of the feedback was positive.

it was massively huge though--350 to 500 posts a day during the hatch part.
