California - Northern

I am finally starting to feel a little better. Spent the most of the last 7 days in bed ( not by choice, I just was too sick to get up). What a nasty flu!

I checked about 1/2 the eggs in the bator and only tossed one. So that's good news:) If anyone in the Redding area wants to hatch some Barnevelders and blue Barnevelders let me know ASAP. I have over 22 nice eggs from the last 3 days and I am still too tired to set up auctions or ship eggs.

Glad you are starting to feel better.

I am glad you are feeling better!

I am also happy to report that Norma has returned and she laid an egg so all is well here. Harriet laid another one in her kennel. Both are running around outside right now with their buddies but I will bring Harriet in tonight again to treat her foot and keep her off the roost.
Great news that she returned!

Well... Between my mother-in-law and myself, because I am totally her enabler! We are looking for (mainly pullets or hens)
-black copper marans
- Lavender Orpington
-Jubilee Orpington
-Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
-Silver Laced Wyandotte
-Barnevelder
-EE-ers
-any type of Polish
-millie fleur
-partridge cochin & silkie

Like I said above, I had about 17 hens and 4 roo's not too long ago, nice ones at that. Well, there was a dog who kept getting out of his owners yard, we deemed him as a stray because they didn't even try to catch him anymore and he ripped through my coop and had himself a chicken dinner

I was devastated, the poor animal control guy had to deal with me being a sobbing mess, at least he cleaned up the wreckage. I don't know if there is a limit on how many I can have, uhmmm.... I don't really care if there is, either. I'm assuming with about 20 I was still in the safe zone. because AC didn't say anything to me about the number I had. I will stop when a) My husband cuts me off. b) I run out of room or c) I just cant handle anymore, being as I have about 10 empty acres I'm going to say its a safe bet that none of the above will happen, I have a man who loves fresh eggs! lol!
Sorry to hear about the dog getting your chickens. Its so upsetting when people don't control their pets.

I looked through your list and I have a couple of the breeds you are looking for. I have a few 3 month old pullets available including Lavender Orpingtons, a splash Barnevelder, and a Double Laced Blue Barnevelder. I also have a trio of Mille Fleur Leghorns which are 1+ years old. There are pictures of their parents and a couple of the available birds on my website.

Thanks everyone:) I still can't believe how hard this flu hit me. I tried to do a few light household chores today and had to go lie down because I thought I was going to pass out. I just managed to add some feed to the feeders in the coops. The chickens were getting low on feed. Luckily I loaded all the feeders up last week the day before I got real sick. I have a few young cockerels that had to fend for themselves free ranging, but they look like they did just fine. A few of them will be chicken soup soon, but I don't have the energy to process them. Chicken soup sounds good right now.

What I want now is a cleaning crew in hazmat suits to help me clean my house, LOL. I feel like every surface is contaminated with flu virus.

Welcome to one of the only places on BYC where a person can ask a question and not have to worry that they will be ignored or chastised!! It is a great thread

I will be trying to hatch silver PENCILED wyandottes in the spring but I am pretty far north of you. SPW are more rare and I think at least as pretty. My last hatch ended up being a bust. I got two boys out of 8 eggs so am going for it again. Hopefully I will get a couple of girls next go around. If I do and you want to make a trip up here I will be happy to share.

I agree, SPW are gorgeous and Wyandottes are sooo sweet. I had a SPW a few years ago and hope to get another some day. I promised myself that I would not get any breeds I did not currently raise but I admit I get weak in the knees for Silver Penciled and Partridge birds. Good luck with your hatch.

Trisha, so glad you are feeling better. Did the kids ever get it?

Yes, the kids got it, but not as bad as the adults that didn't get vaccinated. My son really just had fevers, but my daughter has the fever and respiratory symptoms. DS has had 2 flu vaccines via the nasal vaccine not the shot ( one each year). My DD just got her first via the nasal vaccine a few months ago. I read on the CDC that they both should of received a second dose one month later to insure immunity. The pediatrician didn't say that.
