Yep. Autumn loves her chickens. The JG roos are a little "intense". But she goes after them and scoops them up like it's no big deal. My in-laws are all highly educated city-snobs and are mortified at the whole thing. And I find a DEEP satisfaction from that...HaHaHa.

As far as in-laws, my whole make-the-not-a-greenhouse-into-a-chicken-coop project of the summer has been vindicated--I've been getting 4 eggs a day from my 5 hens steadily for the last week and a half. I'd been getting increasingly condescending questions about when they were going to start laying, until they did![]()
Thanks!Hi Everyone,
I'm new to BYC and chicken keeping. I live in Nevada City, CA and am hoping to get "in the loop" on local chicken and farm stuff and gather some local wisdom, especially as it comes to thwarting predators. Are there any experienced coop builders or retailers in this area? Good feed suppliers? Any good Northern CA breeders of birds that do well in the foothills? We're at about 3,000 ft, so it can get very cold and very hot. I've got my mind set on Dominiques for this first batch of chicks and maybe a few blue Andalusians. . .but I'm sure I'll end up with a menagerie. Thanks!
Oh, how pretty that lavender orphington is! I would love having 2 someday.
