Does cackle hatchery have heritage birds?

The General answer is no but it can be a bit more complicated. A BYC member that lives close to Cackle said that they do not keep most breeding flocks on site. Local breeders supply the eggs to them so sometimes you can get very nice birds from them. You just do not know.

Strombergs has a heritage section. They really are heritage and are Urch\Turnland Birds.

It is much less expensive to buy them from Urch though.

"I was at Wal-Mart in the check-out lane. The man ahead of me was buying a dozen eggs. He said to the check-out clerk, "Are these hen eggs?" She said, "Yes, I guess so." He said, "Last time I bought brown eggs and my wife made me bring them back. She wanted hen eggs, not rooster eggs. Brown eggs are rooster eggs and I don't want them!" The check-out clerk was speechless!"
I sell all my rooster eggs to Wal-Mart. Their the only one who will take them.

I keep thinking about going to this show this weekend, but I don't want to drive there by myself, and I can't get any more chickens anyway. But... anyone from south bay area interested in carpooling on Saturday and coming back the same day?

I'm in the East Bay on the Delta so too far to carpool but would love to hang with you at the show. I am planning on getting there early and staying until mid to late afternoon.

Talked to my dad on the phone today. He grew up on a farm in Iowa during the Great Depression. One of his chores was gathering the eggs from the hen house. He and my stepmom are snowbirds and winter in AZ. He went to Walmart the other day for some groceries and came home laughing at a conversation about eggs that he overheard while waiting in line. He is thinking about sending it in to Reader's Digest. He wrote it up for me so I could share it with you!

My dad said that the man was completely serious.

I was stating that I had a broody that hatched some chicks to an acquaintance once, and she asked me how I knew my hen was pregnant. It was all I could do to keep a straight face.

Quote: Rob will be there and we will have a BYC table - I'm sure he'll do name tags. Mary (The Sheriff) and I will also be there. Look for a curly haired brunette and you've found me.

We are going but we might have 2 issues. One if I'm taking 10 breese we might not have room and we will smell. 2 I get there at opening so we leave before dawn. Three I'm going to look for economy food on the way back so we will be stopping at feedstores. I'm not sure about the trip being fun for you. Oh and we have to stop at lodi on the way home.

Are we still meeting at the snack bar at 11?

oh my, a pregnant hen lol! I don't know how you kept the straight face. I'm getting my hair done today, so I won't know what color to describe myself till I get home :) I look for the byc table and Rob. what is this meeting at 11? I swear I'm going to look like some awkward lurching person afraid to ask someone if they're username "chickensrus1200 from BYC" , and so on. I guess that's how you'll know me :)

It might be time for a cabinet incubator. Dickey, GQF or Brinsea. You can hatch in the R-com.

X 2. I love my cabinet. I incubate in my Cab. and hatch in the Hova Bators. This way, I can hatch every three days when I am completely off the wagon.

11 sounds good to me! I remember it being very crowded at 12 last year.
