California - Northern

Thanks Ron, is your foam on the outter most edges or just in the middle dividers? If you don't use the foam, do you have issues with the eggs falling out a lot?
It looked like the humidity strip hung down CLOSE to the eggs but I couldn't tell if they were touching. Brinsea said they will touch so they said to lay the eggs down where the strip is. Maybe if i could tilt them it would work.
I guess I could just try it. with the strip it sounded like the middle eggs would go bad. But I don't want to pay for shipping back and forth and add $250 for the other one.
I do not have the foam on the outside. I put the egg in and push the foam put against the egg. I have had one come loose once or twice but have not had much of a problem.

I hatched so many eggs in my Octagon 40 last season that I had to have the motor replaced. Eggs have not been hurt by the humidity strip. It is in the middle of mine and I have two baskets. The NYD Hatch had the eggs in the middle of the basket and all of the fertile eggs hatched with not problem.

The Octagon 20 strip might be different though.

I was given the following information regarding breeding Marans;
bk= Black, bl= Blue, Sp= Splash
Bk x Bk = 100% Bk
Bk x bl= 50% Bk, 50% bl
Bk x Sp = 100% bl
***
bl x bl = 25% Bk, 50% bl, 25% Sp
bl x Sp = 50% bl, 50% Sp
***
Sp x Sp = 100% Sp

Does this also apply to all breeds?

Yes. Unless there is some other genes involved like dominant white and recessive white etc.

I think the black has to be a certain type but yes, this works for most breeds.

Okay, my first Pita Pinta/splash Langshan cross chick is now a dried off fluff ball with feathered legs! She/he is blue and yellow/white! How interesting is that! Maybe she will have blue and white Pita Pinta markings?! She is adorable!

I guess that makes sense if the chick got the b from the splash and B from the Pita Pinta. Right?

Ok, here is what it sounded like brinsea described. They said it works for a lot of eggs without the foam and the lay the middle eggs flat. They said the 40 is different and the moisture wick is more to the side so not the same issue. Do these look right? Ron do you ever not use the foam? They're telling me only use the foam for eggs you can't get to fit right. But they fit snigger with it

In the R-Com the eggs are on their sides. It's been a few years in storage, but I remember good hatch rates. :)
Eta...on their sides under a hen as well ;)

I would suggest if you lay em on the side watch the air cells. I did this with duck eggs and they were weird. I don't know if it would be a reoccurring problem or it was the way my turner worked with them.

Hmm, things to think about. I know the hen has them flat but she turns them better (I think) than being in this bator
