If I have EEs that both parents had the blue gene, and breed them to a regular brown layer, will those chicks lay blue eggs still?

maybe its blue/bluexbrown what color eggs would it lay?

I think I over stuffed my genesis incubator this time, LOL. Not much room in there! They are due to start hatching Sunday.

Trisha, do you hatch in cartons with them so close together like that? without the cartons cut down? how does it work out? thanks and good luck on your hatch, Im hatching today too, CCLs :)

If the EE parent had both Blue egg shell gnenes than all of the Pullets\hens will lay blue eggs. They will have one blue and one white from each parent. The Brown Genes(This is a coating over the egg shell color) will be passed on from the brown egg layer but there are 15 of those so there will be different shades passed on. The eggs will be different shades of green.

It was good for the first few hatches then went insane. And the turner broke faster then other I have. Are you watching craigslist? They pop up there (styrafoam incubators). I'm thinking of getting a few digital pid controllers and making mine digital. But then I think I almost never use them...
I think I'll just get a genesis lol. I just want another one to up the amount I can hatch. Any pricy or special eggs will go in the R-com

The Genesis is a good choice!
I agree. I just had the best hatch with the Genesis that I bought last year. This time, they were just farm eggs plus the PP/Langshan crosses so I didn't have any money invested and could be much more relaxed about the whole process. I set 12 eggs one day then added an additional 2 eggs over the next 2 days for a staggered hatch. I filled the first section of the water tray, loaded up the eggs in the turner, turned the incubator on, and left it. I didn't obsess over the humidity/temps and just added water when the humidity started to drop. Then on day 18, I filled the second section of the tray plus topped off the first section. I just let the chicks hatch and only opened up the incubator once to remove the first 9 chicks. I set 14 eggs. 1 didn't develop, 9 hatched from the first group, 1 hatched from the staggered eggs, 1 is due to hatch tomorrow, and 1 from the first group didn't hatch. I'm going to do an eggtopsy after the last chick hatches tomorrow. I was very pleased with the hatch rate.

My genesis has been really good too. Temps are very stable. I also don't obsess about humidity. Most of the time I add a little bit of water at the start and don't add any more until I set the eggs up for hatching. My eggs usually hatch better with a drier incubation and moderate humidity at hatching.

I have done staggered hatches and hatched both in cartons and with the eggs lying on their sides. They hatch better upright in cartons, but I didn't have enough room this time. Some eggs I just laid on their side. This time I have 36 of the eggs that will hatch 2 days latter the first butch. I will do a quick clean up tomorrow ( before the second ones start pipping) and re- set them up for hatching.

Trisha
