Her birds on her site are nice. But there were some little peddlers in the for sale barn at the show. After seeing them: even if the price was the same, I would still prefer some of the other lines. I have BBS marans. Black Coppers are usually darker layers. Here's what I'm getting in the pic. These are the darkest eggs I'm getting. I have lighter ones, but am not hatching those. They are starting to really lay much better than a few weeks ago. If you want darker, I'd go with Black Copper. I think @debs_flock has some really nice dark layers that are Black Copper as well. I'm just a sucker for all Blue birds
I live in elk grove. Considering a small coop with 4 chickens. Any suggestions in the area for purchasing and does anyone know the ordinance in this area.
Cute Visual.... your CLs must like that mottled look
At some point I think/hope to have multiple broodies so maybe when that happens we can talk about chicks tyo break a broody or eggs to satisfy her Where do you live again? I am not opposed to driving...I am used to it. No one who lives in Lake County is likely to complain about making a drive.
I agree!

I love Blues, too (hens the blue Wyandotte in my avatar), but really want the very dark eggs. Papa's Poultry had an auction for a combination of BC/Blue/Splash that I probably would have gone for but it looked like it was already over by the time I saw it. It had been "bumped" a couple of days before, but when I asked about it he said he didn't really have any ready quite yet. I'm still not real sure on how those auctions work yet...

I hatched 35 chicks, problem is they started hatching a day early while I was at the stockton show and I did not have them separate by breed and three of the breeds I hatched are yellow (Bresse, Basque and Sulmtalers). Good luck telling them apart now.
I just listed them on craigslist as mystery chicks.
They are all yellow! You would have to wait a couple of weeks to tell them all apart. Bresse would get white wings in a couple of days. Basque would get white with grey or black barring lines on the wing feathers. I do not know about Sulmatalers.....
Usually one bird will really jump out as my favorite, but not this time. I always love the black Sumatras and spend a long time looking at them. Those are actually my favorite breed. I also have developed a silly affection for bantam frizzled Cochins, the ones that look almost round.
I was really bummed that neither of the breeds that I raise were at this show - or the one in Hollister.
