Thanks for all the acknowledgments about my new baby, it was my first successful hatch! Here is a pic of the two that hatched. "Mutt & Jeff" lol

I tried to weigh my Pita Pinta Cockerel today--He weighs more than kitchen scale can measure, which is 6.6 pounds.

He is a big boy!

I finally got some time to butcher some cockerels and a 2 year- old hen. Going to make some chicken soup I wish I had some earlier this month when I was so sick. I am starting to get better at processing. I skinned them because I didn't want to set up hot water for plucking. Trisha

They look very tasty! I am cooking Chicken Tika Massala and the chicken is a Basque hen. I could tell because there were a couple of feathers on the wing. Mine looked quite a bit different with the skin on.

I am just going to make soup. These will probably be a bit tough due to age and not finishing/ fattening them out for meat. I have some friends that are " foodies" they butchered some very young Barnevelder cockerels. Less than 10 weeks. They said the cockerels tasted amazing at that age. Your dinner sounds delicious! And Jason has such pretty birds!. I think Little Pedler is just hype, personally. I would cry if I paid $175 for 6 Little Pedler eggs and ended up with the ones I saw

Oh yes! It was tasty and fell off of the Bones. The Basque hen was about 18 weeks old and in the 3 to 4 pound dressed range. The Recipe has a marinade, Grill on the BBQ and then Braising or Pressure Cooking in a sauce. We served it with Whole Grain Jasmin Rice, Asparagus and sourdough bread.

I thought I would test the waters by posting an add on craigslist asking if anyone in my area wanted to share an order for California Gay’s from Privett. Within one hour I had all the offers I needed and the guy I’m sharing with is sharing some of his Welsummer’s chicks he’s getting with me. Chicken Math strikes again!

rain on the roof this morning! none of that wimpy misty stuff, but real big-drops-splatting-down-from-the-sky RAIN!!!
