Thank you for that advice.  That is sort of what I was afraid of but fortunately she is not full orp sized.   Her mama is a hatchery orp and her daddy is a mixed breed rooster.  She is still young and is about the size of a small red star.  I will have the brooder ready just in case.  The bantams are silkie/d'uccle I so so hope they both make it...and that they and the other 3 are all girls  but I don't ask for much :D

Dolly hatched silkies all the time before the Fox attack seemed ok.

I am just about ready to have some Mille Fleur Leghorn soup!!!

I set a bunch of Sulmtaler eggs 3 weeks ago, and then moved my Sulmtalers to new coop and run. Their old coop stood empty.

One afternoon, I noticed there were eggs in the empty coop. I was completely confused because I knew I had collected all the Sulmtaler eggs. So.... how did these eggs get there?

The next day I discovered that not 1, but 2 MFL had snuck into the empty coop to lay their eggs. The shocking thing is that in order to get into that coop, the birds had to fly 10 feet up into the rafters of the barn and squeeze through a gap in the wire. Unbelievable!!

My Sulmtaler eggs are hatching, and you guess it.... some of the chicks hatching are MFL. I purposely did not set any MFL eggs, but the hens decided otherwise.
Oh that's funny! We have the hardest time keeping ours in. The bird netting over the run is zip tied in SOOOOO many places! Still one manages to get out and she'll fly to the top of the very high garage roof and hang out. We have to throw things at her to get her to move and come down. Up there she's just hawk fodder but she doesn't care.

The one that escapes from the layer pen to the back yard is a Blue Marans. I do not know how she does it but she was out yesterday afternoon. She Greeted me when I went to check on them yesterday and was very anxious to get back in. She knows that the treat will come from the garage door at the side of the house and wanted to make sure she did not miss them.

She can get out but not back in. My guess is that she flies off of the roof on the coop.

Would you guys recommend the HovaBator 1588 w/automatic turner for my first one?

That is a very good choice!

I still use both of mine--along with the Brinsea Octagon 40.

I'm so confused! I got my days mixed up and hatched chicks before I was expecting them. Was planning on separating them in bins to help ID them. Now I just have a big bunch of chicks.

Sorry I left out the Genesis part, I'm looking on Incubator Warehouse right now, they have a combo kit for $184, which model has the fan? I can't tell from the picture.
