So I have come to terms with the fact that I need an incubator, can't deny the chicken addiction any longer. lol

Above: no escape!! I have started calling broodies hencubators. But they are soo not on demand.
Below:
Lmao. Buy me the nitrogen equipment at hugs henseminates can be yours! My hat is rainbow however.
I may have to have chiqita become the henseminator to my BBS marans. BCM's are said to be helpful on improving BBS lines. I don't want to purchase another rooster, so @chiqita
you may have to get on your Breaking Bad suit and head on over:lau

I tried the King Layer crumbles for my older hens. I liked it. The only problem is I believe it said it contains Peanut Meal. My son is allergic to peanuts and sometimes feeds for me. He hasn't gone into anaphylactic shock, but gets really sick. Even being around it wouldn't be good. Also, I heard soy can cross over into the eggs, and wondered about Peanut Meal doing the same. I wanted to call and find out more about it. Yes they have access at night. I will try that and see. Thank you so much :)

Wanted sperm freezing equipment small. Helpful if it will also work in the kitchen.
Can pay in fine silkie sperm!

Ah, chiqita. You have me realizing I shouldn't drink coffee while reading your posts. Its too hazardous!
Don't forget: we can pay in eggs too! Perhaps they can rent it out for a one time use !

Thanks Happy Chooks but OOPS! I did NOT say that correctly....I gave the broody (LF Orp X) the following: Two bantam and 3 LF eggs. was THAT a mistake?
Orps are big, so I'd be worried about her squishing bantam babies. Just keep an eye on her.

I am just about ready to have some Mille Fleur Leghorn soup!!!

I set a bunch of Sulmtaler eggs 3 weeks ago, and then moved my Sulmtalers to new coop and run. Their old coop stood empty.

One afternoon, I noticed there were eggs in the empty coop. I was completely confused because I knew I had collected all the Sulmtaler eggs. So.... how did these eggs get there?

The next day I discovered that not 1, but 2 MFL had snuck into the empty coop to lay their eggs. The shocking thing is that in order to get into that coop, the birds had to fly 10 feet up into the rafters of the barn and squeeze through a gap in the wire. Unbelievable!!

My Sulmtaler eggs are hatching, and you guess it.... some of the chicks hatching are MFL. I purposely did not set any MFL eggs, but the hens decided otherwise.

Uh oh, you're doomed to chicken addiction.

After New Years, I kept track of how long it took to go through feed. Let's just say that the hubby will not be finding out how much feed we go through.

You're right. It has peanut meal. Sorry to hear your son has allergies. My friends son is severely allergic to peanuts. We took him to Tahoe with us and had to be so careful. We usually make PB and J sandwiches for the slopes but I was so worried about cross contamination so we did not even bring PB with us to Tahoe. With PB allergies, you can never be too careful.

Thank you for that advice. That is sort of what I was afraid of but fortunately she is not full orp sized. Her mama is a hatchery orp and her daddy is a mixed breed rooster. She is still young and is about the size of a small red star. I will have the brooder ready just in case. The bantams are silkie/d'uccle I so so hope they both make it...and that they and the other 3 are all girls but I don't ask for much

I hear ya! I've only hatched three chicks, but it was magical. I can't wait to do it again, but I'm pacing myself so that my husband dosen't start to despise our chickens.
