California - Northern

I have never had any luck with Craigslist, even tried listing them for free. LOL seriously, I end up giving them to my local feed store.

The USPS Tracking shows they should be here today. I hope for lots of Mottled pullets! I agree...they are amazing looking birds. As soon as I saw them on the auction I knew I wanted them in my small flock. Thanks so much for making them available!

The same thing happens here. If I leave the big side door open on the coop, the scrub jay flies in there and pecks the eggs. He hasn't figured out how to fly into the run and then into the small door. I should say yet! Those scrub jays are smart birds!

I have one who does that too. Enormous pain in the patoot.
Laura I get the vitamins in the packets that does not say save a chick and one packet lasts 6 months or more.it is cheap enough to put it is every day. It's supposed to make the water light yellow at maintenence levels.

Ever since that scare where Starseed got sever wry neck in such a short time I give silkie clutches nutri drench instead at least once a week
I think it's easier to digest. I'm going to start giving vegamite too. We'll to the asults. It is supposed to help with hatch ability all the right vitamins in a digestable format.

I like Nutridrench/ Vegamite really?
Ok don't look that up on google. I think I'll ad spur sexing chicken not chicks.

hahahahahaha

Lots and Lots of Mottled Pullets. Can you keep a rooster?

Rain!pouring drenching n loud rain pounding everywhere! .The ducks have never seen it before it's too funny.

We are getting some good rain here too this morning, but they said the bulk of it has moved to the Bay Area where you are now. We are supposed to get pretty good drenching thru the weekend though. I am sooooooo happy to finally get a significant amount coming down..

Snowing. Reports and rumors of crazy amounds. Hm maybe I'll get snowed in. Were the only house on the street! I'll have to cancel driving into town a gazillion times dance , choir, college, ... I am in taxi
Mom stage. Perhaps I'll be forced to keep a fire going and sit there crocheting baby booties, sipping tea and reading. oOHHH DARN!!!!!
Wanted to say thanks for all the humidity advice lately. All is well in the mini and the bator. Staggered hatch here we come.

You poor, miserable thing. How awful the "Sitting in front of the fire" part sounds. No snow here in the foothills, but I heard you were supposed get a ton!

When I ran a test hatch in my GQF cabinet hatcher, I just set a dozen eggs from the farm. They came out of a mixed run area with mostly Bresse but also 4 RIR's and a couple mixed cockerels that hatched from other farm mix eggs. The eggs that these two hatched from came from our layer flock consisting of 4 colors of Langshan hens, 1 barred rock hen, 3 silver penciled rock hens, and one mutt Sumatra mix hen. In with our layers for a while was a group of young cream legbar mix cockerels hatched from eggs from chiqita. She was pretty sure that her CL roo Orlando was the daddy of most of them. There was one boy in there that might have been pure FBCM but the rest showed CL parentage. Anyway, long story to say, of the 6 eggs that hatched out of our pen, 5 were Bresse and 1 was a yellow chick that had very faint eye bar and head v markings. He has grown into a white bird with black markings, slight yellow feathers on his head, and white legs. I can't figure out what his parentage is. Anyone want to play guess who my daddy and mommy are?!

Let me edit this to say that I didn't collect the eggs so it is possible that the egg that he hatched from came from the layer flock and not the Bresse/RIR pens. My friend's kids help take care of the chickens and collect eggs. If I am not specific on which eggs to keep separate, they sometimes get mixed up. Maybe he has silver penciled Plymouth rock in him?

It must be the area. The farm is in Brentwood and off the beaten track but she has people just come there to ask if she has any chickens for sale.
