California - Northern

The result of my first hatch. I put 8 in lockdown. One didn't look like it was developing quite right so I didn't expect it to hatch. Another looked to be saddled originally. So I knew there was the possibility for those 2 to not hatch but I don't REALLY know so I set them anyway.

6 hatched! 3 FBCM x CLB and 3 CLB (2 girls and 1 boy). The three crosses leave to their new home today and my husband wants me to keep the CLB's.

I'm trying to keep my flock #s down but if he wants to keep them I better (that's rare).

I'm concerned about my Serama eggs. They have 7 more days. I hope the high humidity, opening the bator, and fluctuation in temps didn't ruin them!

they are who I want the most.... But I am stoked to have had any hatch let alone all the ones that looked to be right.

Thanks again for all the advice and links on here!

Congratulations on the hatch!

The Humidity should not hurt the Seramas. They have troubles from being shipped though so

sending you good hatch wishes!

Lotus here. Anyone in the Placerville area with Phoenix's or other fancy/rare breeds and or waterfowl? I'd like to get my hands on some eggs to load the bator.
Welcome to the Northern CA thread!

I was very sad when the Wheel of Time series looked like it was not going to be finished.

Branden Sanderson did a great job finishing it though!

Edited to add: Do you get Geeky comments like this a lot?

Thank you Ron! The good news is I went to the Stockton show and Shantih hand delivered them to me! So no shipping involved. I'm hopeful :) ! But it does get my nerves going lol.

Today we found my daughters Bantam Leghorn cock dead. Last night, he looked like the picture above and we moved him inside. We believe it was from red mites. He has always been sensitive to mites, if that's possible. He would get them even when yhe others didn't and they were very hard to erradicate on him. We treated him for mites 6 days ago: dusted him with Sevin, treated with Revolution, changed his bedding and sprayed his coup with Sevin. He was holding his own this week and was eating and drinking. We were giving him Nutradrench. Yesterday, I retreated him as the second round for newly hatched mites. His poop was normal, but yesterday I purchased Ivermectin to give him as a last ditch effort.

Today, even though none of my other birds have mites, I will dust them all again.

We are pretty sad about the whole thing and all the effort we put out to save Hercules. If anyone has any words of wisdom, we would love to hear them. Could we have done a better job? Are some chickens more susceptible?
