California - Northern

Yeah, see, that's what mine used to do. At the old house.

But we just moved and today I gave them the option of free ranging at the new place. I guess the excitement of being let out for only the 3rd time at the new house was much more rewarding than staying dry, because I currently have a flock of chickens that are all soaked to the bone...I'll have to share the pictures I took, it's pretty funny.
i wish i could free range. there runs are huge though. its just pouring here thats why. just going out in it for a minute and I'm already soaked through lol

Speckled Sussex...

Light Brahmas, Bertha and Charlotte(guest starring Nelly, the obsessive herding freak)

My most prettiest girl, Carolina :)

And of course, Splash, the girl with two different eyes. I originally planned on selling her as a baby but what can I say...I love unique things, birds included.

I totally understand! I finally got my hands on some! We'll see how it goes! There is people on here who have some. I'm JUST starting my Serama project. I have a Serama Cock Bird and a Serama hen but they've only been together for a few weeks. I'm near Placerville. I'm hoping for at least a few of the 5 developing eggs to hatch!

My Chiquita serama hatch was 100% so I'm hoping the best for you!

I'm so excited to be getting my incubator next week and start hatching chicks!

Congrats. So much stressful fun;-)
Chiqita~

Please let me know if and when you've got eggs available...please haha.

Thankfully I don't use canes haha

I hope she saves me a girl egg or two! Last hatch was all adorable boys.

i keep seeing alot about seramas are they cold hardy?
Ive been wanting a few i just dunno where to get them anyone have any serama chicks lol

My boys survived a week of below 0 hiding under the olandsk dwarf hens. Our winters are around 10-30 overnight. They are more hardy than I thought-as long as they can snuggle a fatty patty !

great photos! my chickens have a new swimming pool in one of their runs, but i think they are okay other than that...

and i'd been planning to drive down to SF to visit some friends this afternoon, once the rain was forecast to slack off a bit, but i just got an emergency flash flooding warning on my phone (!), saying there's imminent danger of flash floods in Petaluma & Penngrove (where i live, although i'm way up on the hill, at the headwaters of said floods) -- so i don't think i'm going to be driving anywhere!

Just ordered me some along with a new candler.  I had one that came free with my bator, but I think the grandkids highjacked it...

Vicki, I'm truely glad that you or anyone can learn from out mite issue. The first time we learned about mites was a pretty inconvenient and embarrassing moment. It was the first time Sierra had shown chickens...EVER. and it was the same chicken that just passed away. Sierra was standing with the judge and he looked at Hercules vent and told Sierra she was DQ'd because if mites. We learned from that moment on to ALWAYS check the vent.

What do your guy's chickens do when it rains?
If it's not raining hard, they are all over the yard scratching for bugs and drinking drops of water off of the fences When it rains hard, they tend to congregate under the bushes or in the covered run. It's a new experience for the young ones. This morning I saw a young Bresse pullet react to having muddy feet. She had walked through a very soupy, muddy area and her feet were caked with mud. She limped a few steps, stopped to shake her foot, stared at it, then ran after her friends. I love standing inside and watching them!

A new wheeler huh? What did ya get? I'm a Jeep guy...kinda have to be anyway since I work for GenRight lol

OMG...I should have known you before now!!!

I've owned 7 Wranglers. Hence, the "Jeepchick" name. My last one was a custom ordered 2012 JKUR with a manual tranny and 4:10's, front stubby bumper, Rock
Crawler rails. Unfortunately, I sold it 4 months ago. I fell in love with a Subaru Crosstreck that gets 33 MPG but still has semetrical AWD. I will come back to Jeep after I get my daughters through school and don't need something with good gas mileage.

The toy we have now is a 2014 RAM 4x4 Quad cab with the 5.7 HEMI.

Sorry everyone, I'm a car nut. Done hijacking the thread now. Carry on!!!
