Use permethrin. Many source say no withdrawal for eggs. 5 days for eating swine meat so I would probably not eat the chicken for 5 days but the eggs should be ok.
Thanks for clearing that up Ron. I was confused and thought the Dienomite strips had Pyrethrin, but actually they have Permethrin

Aww :hugs . do you have a second thermometer to go by? What kind of incubator do you have? I agree with chiqita on calibrating. My first incubator (at 12) what a still air hova bator. got great hatches, and was around a long time. I never measured humidity just filled up the trays like the directions said. But with cheap eggs, things seem easier. That's how it always its though.
I would get your incubator set up now and check the temps. Did you put the eggs in a bag, open them and see where they were at in development. I should have done that before myself, but too grossed out at the time.
What are you trying to hatch? Any breed in particular?  I have some babies coming up in a few weeks. I don't ship though. If you're interested you can have your mom message me and give me a call when they hatch.  I have marans and the marans/lav AM crosses seem to be doing well. I'm actually excited about the crosses. Hoping they'll be some pretty OE.  I can give you some if you'd like. I don't want to "count them before they hatch" though.  Just don't' know how to get them to you if you're interested.

I've got a thermometer and a hygrometer. They were developing and I saw movement. But no hatch. I'm going to give them one more day.

So your saying not to use the Dienomite strips because they are not safe? I have had them on my list of things to get. So you wait 8 days after spraying your birds with Pyrethrin to collect eggs?

The mite strips are a very low level. They do not get into the chickens so much as treating the coop.

I have been using them for two years.

Do you have only the one of each? There could be a problem with one or the other. If they are fully formed and don't hatch, humidity could be the problem. I'm not expert on hatching though. I think if it's too high they can drown right before hatch.

On the subject of lice in the coop and on birds i dont use chemicals, sevin or any of that i actually use a trick my dad used on his which id just white vinegar and water. my crested polish hen had severe lice and within a week of spraying her (had to drench her then after about twp hours wash it off) all the lice on her died and wheb i rinsed her off alot of the lice came off. i dont like using chemicals if i dont have to

I went to pick up my incubator and see my grand-chicks today. DD handled it better than I thought see would, they hatched out a splash Orpington bantam. She wants one badly but the two we hatched last year were a black boy with leakage and a pretty little blue pullet. The wyandotte will probably be a black laced pullet, none of our blues were that dark at hatch.
