I swear chickens like to slow work down lol. i was attempting to clean out a muddy and sticky run and as soon as i exposed clean dirt everyone decided "lets dustbathe right this second" lol so i was having to move through the flock of chickens in order to shovel out the muck lol i got it taken care of though

Those "ameracaunas" are from Belt Hatchery in Fresno. I would have accepted more personal accountsbility if I had purchased Easter Eggers. But, in this case I thought I was getting a specific breed.

I like your plan Ron. But will only work if my daughter Autumn will agree to give up The Spice Girls (Sugar, Cinnamon and Cocoa)

They are EE's and they can lay any color egg. Usually the hatcheries will spell it with an "i".

I just received a call from Debbie Belt from Belt Hatchery. I appreciate the time she took to call me as I am very aware that she could have ignored my request for understanding of the brown egg laying Ameracaunas.

She explained the same thing that Liz posted earlier. In their brochure, it states that the genetics of those birds does produce some brown egg layers. Unfortunately, all of mine turned out to be those. Furthermore, when
I purchased the live chicks from the store, I was not made aware if that fact. I do believe however, that ignorance is not an excuse. So...lesson learned. If I want something specific, I need to contact a reputable breeder and see for myself the characteristics that I desire.

My words seem so calm and reflective. But on the inside I'm having a tantrum because I want colored eggs!!

I got two EE's from Belt Hatchery last year. One lays green the other a very light cream (which I kinda like). I've always had good luck with Belt in the past but there may have been a problem last year. Try emailing them about it. Here's a cut and paste from their web site. I don't think their Ameraucana's.

It is great that the Hatchery called you.

It makes me sad when that happens with the Blue egg layers from the feed store.

Someone here will help you get some pretty blue eggs when you are ready.

I talked with Autumn after school today. Remember, she's only 10 and she LOVES her chickens. I explained that in order to get what we want in a flock, we will have to sell a few of our least favorite chickens. She's thinking it over...chicken math is so hard when you're 10. ;>
