My 3 yr old granddaughter loves watching chicks but is always very concerned about where their mommy and daddy is. I get the 3rd degree from her every time I hatch chicks. Babies are supposed to be with their mommy and daddy, you know! Any answer that I give her is always followed by a "Why???" !
OMG That is so adorable!! Kids say the cutest things!

Uh oh have bloody poop in my chick enclosure do I need to treat for cocci?

Tractor supply has powder form only going right now.

I use the powder and the instructions I give are for the powder.

For active outbreaks, mix 1.5 tsp of the powder with one gallon of water. Mix a fresh batch each day for 5 days. After 5 days, cut the amount to 1/2tsp for five more days.

Give them a chicken vitamin with b vitamins in it after the second treatment. Watch them and repeat if necessary until they are 9 months old.

How do the chickens seem? If they are not drinking the water you need to make sure they drink it. I dip their beak into the water several times a day and they usually start drinking and feeling better by the second day.

I have not lost any chicks to cocci.

Thank you Ron three of the chicks are not eating or drinking and one is pretty much just sitting there with eyes closed looks really bad. They were all fine yesterday, how does this happen?

Cocci comes from birds and the environment. It can blow in with the wind. The load builds in their intestines to a critical level.

Birds do not show illness until they are very sick. They have been sick for a while but you just don not see it. I look for symptoms and often just get a feeling that something is off so I treat the chicks.

Do not give them food today or tomorrow. Just give them the corid water and make sure each chick drinks it. Tomorrow afternoon give them some scrambled eggs and if they eat it then give them some chick starter. They should have nothing but chick starter for a week or so. They need to let their intestines and digestion system recover.
