well now this is new: a PURPLE-colored egg today, and absolutely no idea who might have laid it -- coming from a pen with marans, silver-pencilled rocks, and amelias. best guess is that one of the older marans is just finally getting started laying again (after a long winter hiatus), and her color is off -- but truly mystified!
Stunning collection of eggs!!!

Beautiful egg bouquet. The purple one is my "Mecca".

Beautiful Eggs!

Is the purple egg brown if it gets wet? I have a Partridge Penedesenca that lays one like that.

thanks all! and yes Ron, definitely brown when wet, so undoubtedly from one of the marans (the amelias lay green, and the SPPRs are cream/pinkish) -- will keep an eye out to see whether she makes a habit of it!

@lawatt
I have one that lays eggs like that, but they always dry with a ring, like they'd been sitting in a puddle, even when collected with bloom still wet. :/
That blue is amazing!

I put the eggs under my aunt's broody hen the afternoon of the last Tuesday in January (the 25th) Conservatively that makes this Tuesday day 21 and today Day 19. I have the two Bantam eggs here in the incubator in my house and left the LF eggs under the broody. I went down today expecting to see her pancaked on those eggs but instead she was out scratching and have a constitutional. Should I be worried about the 3 remaining eggs she has or is day 18 more of a guideline for those hatching with an incubator than it is for a broody???

Broodie hatches are on their own schedule.

I hope they hatch!
