Congratulations on your hatch Debi....I am trying one in the Suro Ray/Aaron fixed the fan on but Ray thinks there is a loose connection because it went off on the second day & Ray took the top off & put it back on & it was working again. I will wait awhile & candle which I NEVER do & see if they are alive. I put my darkest BCM eggs in there & some pretty AMs & some of the BO. I will think good thoughts & try again.
I ordered a new Hovabator with the temp;humidity. It is due on the 24th I will try again then. I keep giving my eggs away so I had better start collecting the good ones again.
Sandy long time no see.....................Hope you get to come to the Chicken Party on May 18th. I need to write to Dyann too. How is your craft room re do coming along?
Denny Thomas is coming this afternoon. I am excited to see her. It has been quite awhile. I hope she is spending the night. I need to check out the "guest room" Aaron was the last one that spent the night....LOL
I swear I am such a terrible typer. I spend more time correcting my mistakes than I do typing them. I guess I should have take clerical classes in school. It doesn't help that I sit my laptop on my lap & it is at about a 45 degree angle as I type.................LOL

Do you have a thermometer/hygrometer inside the Suro? One problem that I had was that the readout on the incubator said that it was at the correct temperature and I trusted it. I found out that it wasn't heating up at all no matter what it said.

Can hardly wait for the chicken party! George wanted to go away for the weekend that weekend but I told him that I already had something on the calendar! That's pretty bad, huh?! I better find a different weekend for him!

Add me to the list. I do my own nails about once a year but they are messed up within a few hours of doing it. Short and plain nails are fine with me!

Okay so i found an article on here about editing a tube sock as the same principle as the rooster collar. im not sure hpw well itll wprk but my dad has.t heard any crowing yet we will see in the morning. with our roos when i say "get rid of" it means kill him so im wanting that as a last resort.
do the hoods like falconers work on chickens? (Meaning would the principle work and i could make some)

I saw some posts about using a tube sock, but most said the fabric seems to be too stretchy and didn't really stop the crowing. It did decrease in the beginning until the rooster got used to wearing it, then it would go back up to nearly the level before the sock was put on.

All it seemed to do for me was change the sound. im gonna see if i cant make something like a mask they use for hawks that eay the roos cant see the sun. if nothing else my german is gping to become dinner

I made mine with Velcro after seeing a pic of the ones Ron has. It is hard to get mine tight enough to make a huge difference on the sound level. DH keeps telling me to tighten it up but a couple of times it has been too tight and Zoro stands there looking like he has wry neck. It is also hard to do with one person. I'm still working on it to get it just right. The things we do for love of a rooster!

Let us know how that works! Zoro still crows in the very dark garage when he hears me in the house. Whatever time I get up is when he starts crowing. I swear he hears the water in the pipes and that's his cue!

That is so cool! Thanks for posting it. Most of the eggs I have are too dark to see this sort of thing with...

I am using a high intensity Brinsea Ova view. The is a fairly dark egg so I used a candler from incubator warehouse on top.

I posted this last year--this is what a light shelled egg looks like with a good candler:
