Niice ron!

I used the back of a Dean Koontz novel as the back ground....

I'm bringing this post forward that @Audio51 posted. I'm curious what some of you think. I have no need as my coops are a good distance from my house or any neighbors.
I make them by grabbing a scrap of non stretch cotton, measuring the roosters neck with my fingers , cut to size and see on hook and loop. The feathers cover them. They still crow.... It will have to be trial and error with your guys.

Ohhhh. That was super cool . Movement was so great. I love to see that but it's hard not to stare and then leave them out too long ! Idk if it was the brinsea brightness but it looked a little porous? I cross my fingers on seeing development on those. Your a master of incubation! Lol thank you for the video.

What makes it even more fun is that she's a boxer, and, like a lot of boxers, she's allergic to corn--I'm pretty sure not all the corn in the feed is digested, and corn-free feed's a bit too rich for my pocket.
Do any of the feed stores in your area carry King Feed? They have a non-GMO corn & soy free feed. I've been paying around $22/50 lb for it.

Nice! I do love the background! It sounds like we have similar literary tastes. Robert Jordan and Dean Koontz are two of my favorite authors. Amazon has the pre-release of the Odd Thomas movie and I'm trying really hard to resist the temptation to rent it.

Nope, the closest is over 4 hours away. I could see if that mill up in Center Point makes a corn free feed, though--Parkway Feed carries it, or at least it did before the fire...

Today was hatch day! 19 chicks hatched out of 23 eggs! 1 fully formed chick pipped, zipped 1/4 the way, and then died. It looks to me like it drowned. I have the last 3 that show no signs of pipping still in the incubator just in case. It is technically 21 days at 11 tonight so maybe they will still hatch. I have a group of Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mix chicks (look just like Pita Pintas right now), some Langshans from the farm, a few Bresse, and 1 big, fat RIR chick! Monet is in love with this big fat chick! The last group of eggs that we hatched also had 1 RIR but it is definitely a boy. If this one is a girl, we might have to keep it!

A scary thing happened in the middle of the hatch. I was watching the chicks and noticed that they were panting. I am obsessive about checking the temperature and humidity throughout the day. But when I noticed the panting and looked at the read out, the temp was 102! We pulled all the chicks out and put them in the bottom hatching tray of my cabinet hatcher. Then I unplugged the incubator and plugged it back in. It is back to holding the temp at 99.5-99.7. I was worried that the 3 eggs with pips & partial zips would shrink wrap but all 3 hatched fine. How scary! Has anyone had that happen with their Genesis? I'm going to clean it out in a couple days and let it run without eggs for a few days while I watch it.

You might try asking your feed store to carry it! I know that they are actively seeking new accounts!

I might just do that! I'm about equidistant from both feed stores, so I'll call both and see

Alas, it turns out that Rogue Quality Feed has nothing corn-free (at least for poultry)--while there are a couple of ingredient lists that don't include corn, they have "grain products" instead, which could include corn. Even their organic, soy-free has corn--organic corn. Somehow I think that'd still make the dog's eyes goopy and her skin itchy...

For those of you that have multiple breeds that you need to keep eggs separate...what do you use to gather eggs? I use an egg flat carton but I was just curious what others do. Is there a special basket that keeps them separate

I usually take egg cartons out & mark the carton as I collect if I have a lot or just mark the light eggs with a pencil by breeds. If the eggs are dark I know they are Marans. If its the Marans in the Ameracuanas pen I keep them with the AM eggs so I know they are Olive Eggers.
