I think I would be so worried about choking the poor thing to death I would be constantly checking it. I can definitely see that it would be tough to do alone. I just put colored zip ties for leg bands on my 4 Marans and even that was not easy to do alone. A couple of them whacked me in the face with a wing.....

All it seemed to do for me was change the sound. im gonna see if i cant make something like a mask they use for hawks that eay the roos cant see the sun. if nothing else my german is gping to become dinner

Sometimes changing the sound is all you need. It can be the volume and pitch that annoys the neighbors. If you can reduce the volume and lower the pitch they may be OK with that.

I bought a candler from McMurrays, but the bulbs are not very bright. I actually get better light from a small LED flashlight, but also get leakage of the light since it is not concave. I think if I can find a rubber gasket the right size to fit on the end it would work very well.

The candler I used on the top in the video is like that--an led flashlight with an O-ring and the lens removed.

For Dark eggs, The Brinsea High Intensity works the best. There is an ova scope that is much more expensive and I have seen candlers in the $400 dollar range. For the price, this one works well.

Let us know how that works!  Zoro still crows in the very dark garage when he hears me in the house.  Whatever time I get up is when he starts crowing.  I swear he hears the water in the pipes and that's his cue!

My silkies start at 430 and rile each other up. Not for long and they are in a hollow so the house absorbs the noise but I do worry. I may start moving flame again at night once danny boy goes to his new home at the serama show. The remaining boys in there are bigger sleepers.

I use a plumbing part works great
400

That one is 400 lumes and 7 bucks. It works for everything but you cant see much veining in marans. My eggs are pretty dark however. 900 lumes you can see vivid detail in everything but I dont care that much lol.

I need to recheck my maths for my duck eggs they are not doing anything :(

Idk if it was the brinsea brightness but it looked a little porous? I cross my fingers on seeing development on those.
I've noticed that they are porous. Good eye! @ronott1 do you think that will be a problem?

Today was hatch day! 19 chicks hatched out of 23 eggs! 1 fully formed chick pipped, zipped 1/4 the way, and then died. ...

A scary thing happened in the middle of the hatch. I was watching the chicks and noticed that they were panting. I am obsessive about checking the temperature and humidity throughout the day. But when I noticed the panting and looked at the read out, the temp was 102! We pulled all the chicks out and put them in the bottom hatching tray of my cabinet hatcher. Then I unplugged the incubator and plugged it back in. It is back to holding the temp at 99.5-99.7. I was worried that the 3 eggs with pips & partial zips would shrink wrap but all 3 hatched fine. How scary! Has anyone had that happen with their Genesis?
Yeah for chicks! Sorry about the one. I always wonder why they would almost make it, then die like that.
Incubating just seems so complicated. I ended up loaning the Genesis, that I bought used, to Ron. I'm hoping that it works!

Denny Thomas is coming this afternoon. I am excited to see her. It has been quite awhile.
Say hello to Denny for me.

I really want to come to your party, just need to make sure that we don't have plans, since that is around Mother's Day and my son's Bday.

There are some porous eggs but they are not too bad. The air cells are doing fine and are where they should be on day 12.

The Genesis is working nicely! The egg dropped off yesterday are in it now. I have three hatched running now. The first hatch will be next Friday and then the next two Friday and Thursdays.

Very exciting!

I have 50 more in the cabinet hatcher including 10 from my new Langshans. It never gets old for me! Now to get rid of my quail so I have 2 more pens for grow outs!
When are they hatching Debi?? And where are you again..East Bay? North Bay? Penninsula? I am down there pretty regularly and my son goes to school at College of San Mateo. Thinking if you have extra blue or splash just kicking around you might want to share

I sold two pullets today so have room for two more. I am cool with mixes too.

I was looking at my Australorps this morning and they are so lovely even if they are hatchery girls. Think I will always have one or two but as i was looking at them I thought about adding Langshans...Blue Langshans seem easier to find than Blue Australorps so it is funny that you said you had a bator full on the same morning I was thinking what a nice addition they would make.

@HappyChooks the chick, LC, is much improved today but it is so active it has loosened its hobbles so I am going to get my friend across the hall to help again.

Do you guys think the broody mama will take this one in this weekend when its legs will hopefully be all straightened out? If not I need to get it a friend ASAP. Anyone driving south on 5 want to stop off at papas poultry and pick me up a couple of his mixed fun frizzle sizzle babies???

I called around to local feed stores and they all have RIR and CornishX...they must all order from the same spot

I probably err on the side of not tight enough. He lets me know right away if it is too tight. He stands there waiting for me to fix it. I usually have Monet help me with all the two person/four hand chores but she is not a morning person and is still in bed snoozing when I'm doing early morning chicken things. It is a good thing that we homeschool and she has that flexibility. I can't imagine what it would be like if I had to wake her up early every morning!
