X2.

They won't stay warm enough while being held.
@nikki1496 I agree. they will have a better shot under the heat lamp. make sure that is the temp at their level. Sugar water is good. Dip their beaks in it a couple times to make them drink. After that, there is nothing you can do. I put some vitamins in my babies water. There was a post about baby vitamins without Iron, but i'm not knowledgable on exactly which one. you can search the thread.

The two doms died and a.silkie but right now the others seem okay i made the elctrolyte mix and they seem to love it even my little silkie with ghe braced legs is drinking. once they have electrolytes in them will the ones not eating start to eat? Theres food in front of then on the ground but a few dont wanna eat

I get my daughters to do ours whenever possible. Indentured servitude is alive and well in my house.

Unfortunately my kids have grown & flew the coop. Was that me that said unfortunately???????.....LOL No more house help here...............My grown son comes & helps me with the chicken chores. We have done a lot of projects together. Whatever hair brained scheme his mother thinks up he & his Dad can make happen if she can't do it herself......LOL. I am truly blessed.

So......today is day 20 and the broody has hatched out at least 3 chicks...2 BC Marans ans one of the Mottled Ameraucana. I have one pip in the incubator so I am hopeful I will have a fair hatch!

Tap the food for them and even dip their beaks into it. If they do not eat you can try tube feeding. Kathy may post a tutorial for it.

Their organs need to start working and then they will eat. They should be eating at 3 to 4 days old.

I am no expert in getting chicks to eat. They usually do well on their own and haven't had issues.
BUT take some chick start and pick it up and rub it between your fingers. The fact that it's moving and dropping usually attracts them. They see if falling and get interested. Some chicks i had loved when i dipped a finger in water, then in the food. They'd peck at it on my finger. If they don't seem to appreciate it, i make it fall off a little. The movement catches their eye sometimes.
I had a 1 day old running for food last week, just watching the food drop.
Other groups cared less about the wet food on the finger though.
I also call them with a "chook, chook, chook", though not nearly as good as a mama would. They soon learn to run to you for treats.
But now they, even when they're older, they come when I call them.

I just have to open the door and they come running. Little Vultures!
