My grandmother taught be to do that at a young age.....That feels like a century ago....LOL

My Dad taught us how to clip the feathers on one wing growing up too. It is amazing how much is the same and yet things have changed too.

Nice going Debi & George...............Too many ideas in my head all the time to even think of getting done. Lucky thing I don't move as fast anymore so I don't take on too much like I used too...........Ahhhhh, such fun times.  I have always enjoyed having projects. Even better when we did them together.
Already answered by someone else..............I am wanting quail for my son Aaron. I guess I will drive to Angels camp to get them for him. I want about 20 for him to have a lot of eggs. I taught him how I made pickled eggs for him when I had quail & now he wants to do it for him & his girlfriend. She is terminally ill & he is her care giver & they both love the pickled eggs.

I know..........   huh???? I am so glad I hated feeling like I was monopolizing the whole thread with my responses......LOL

Manychitlens......... I have another lady (CackleJoy) coming to the party in May bringing her 4 kids, husband & mother. You are all welcomed. My husband & I were looking at some picnic tables at Costo Sunday. I may get a couple. I want people to feel comfortable & everyone have a place to sit. I have stacks of chairs & other tables & chairs though. It's not fancy but kids love to play in the pool & my daughter has a pool party here every week during the summer with a group of her friends with kids.

I can send you quail eggs if you want. Or bring some in may. My quail are inside so they are laying. The manchurians have Huge eggs.

Yes, they are the small ones. They fit tipped on the side like in the picture against the side of the incubator next to one side of the egg turner. Each container raised humidity about 5% which will get my incubator to about 35% humidity. They need to be refilled every 5 days or so.

I couldn't clean out the tray any more and found that salad plates fit under the mesh nicely! One plate -36-40 % add another 1/2 full -56-60%!!!! I used the ones with chickens on the print ;-)))

Gah maybe I should move them in. They stink! Maybe I should add a light in their window, but we built 14 in headroom
To stop flushing... No space for a lamp. Maybe external light by the window from like 5-8 pm would get them
Laying? Is it also the cold that ales them go on strike? Also last week my feed store was out of 30% and I had to buy 20% breeder... I give shells , bos and spray. Is that ok?

Make sure you don't get Bobwhite quail! They are cute little buggers and I love their call but they take forever to mature and lay eggs! I also read that they are monogamous! I love monogamy but not so much with my birds. I would rather have 1 male and several female. 1 on 1 takes too much pen space. The chosen males are chasing and picking on the unchosen males. It is wild times in the quail pens right now!

Quote: I checked around on a few other sites too after you posted that. There are some folks who think even kiln dried is not safe, others who think they are all safe, incuding cedar. Most of the sites I found were for rats/rabbits/guinea pigs, etc. I think they are more likely to chew or ingest it than chickens are though. Chicks, on the other hand, who don't really know what food is yet, might be more inclined to eat them. I have stayed away from cedar shavings for years since they said the aromatic quailities make that unsafe, but always though pine was OK. I have been using it in my coop for quite a while with no problems. I never paid attention to whether it was kiln dried or not, but will now.

Oh! Almost forgot! Love those trays Debi! Can't wait to see them in person at Karens on the 18th!
I'm glad that you are going to Karen's party, too!!! We didn't have enough talking time at the Stockton show!

That should work great! Just let me know when you are coming up and I can probably meet you in Chico with them.
OK...just figured out that I will be away from the last weekend in March to the first Sunday in April. These little will be like 6 weeks old then right? Is it OK if I wait that long?? I don't want to leave the care of youngsters to someone else.

Sure! That's no problem at all. It might take that long to get an idea on sex anyway.

My friendliest are the 2 Ameraucanas I got from Chickee, especially the youngest. The Red Sex Link is also pretty friendly. My BO is pretty indifferent. The FBCMs are too

*new chicken person* What is a FBCM? I'm having trouble keeping the breed initials straight. I'll get there eventually. :)

French Black Copper Marans. They lay chocolate eggs. I'm with you on the initials....I have some down now, but still have to try to work thru some. There are sooo many with all these chicken experts here and they raise some really unusual breeds. Hopefully we will catch on quickly!
