They are SO adorable!! I just want to hug them!

Who did you get them from?
They remind me of tiny teddy bears. They hatched from eggs I got from Papa Brooder. I'm excited to see what colors they end up being.

Does anyone know how you can tell if a chick has 2 frizzle genes? I've heard that they are patchy, and their feathers break off easily, but can you tell just by looking at them? I have the two frizzles, but their feathers are very different. On the first one, the feathers look normal, but they curl up and stick out. The black one's feathers are way more course and curly.

Such cutie patootie silkies!

My next batch = sizzles/frilkies & showgirls

By the way, which one's the most common or correct way to refer to frizzled silkie?

I have no idea how to answer your question but I think these guys are totally adorable. Thanks for your input re silkies. I think I will wait awhile to get a couple. If I can hatch some cochin bantams I may be in broody city.

I do have total chick envy just thought I would tell you all that. But I guess it is character building.

Question: Is it normal for a hen when she has an apron on for the first time to flop like a fish and moonwalk and generally loose all ability to move in a normal fashion? My CG girl was looking rough so I put the apron on her and she walked like she was drunk. I have her separated. Anyway just wondering if she is doing what your girls have done. Thanks

Our freeloading EE'er seems to bring us luck. Last time she layer, DD's team won the State Bowling Title, Feb. 22nd. I found her egg in the coop this morning and we won the auction for the phoenix and d'anver eggs from BBB. We are hoping our luck holds out and we can get some partridge rock bantams to add to the incubator. i hope she lays on hatch day as well. I will be able to tell everyone apart.

I have had some of them do that, but mine got used to it eventually. The funniest thing was when I first got a hen apron and put it on one of the hens and all the other chickens freaked out and ran away from her. She was trying to run away from herself too!

No! It drives me crazy someone corrects me no matter what I call them. Sounds like your breeding plans are dovetailing with mine!

Yep. Freaks them right out.

thanks @chickee and @chiqita She went wiggy but got her way into the coop alright. If she is acting normally tomorrow I can let her back with everyone but they all ran to her to see what was up and I was worried they might go agro on her so she is spending the night solo.

I'm just a few miles from Gilroy Foods and that smell of garlic, lol!

I had a friend that used to live in Gilroy and she always went to the garlic festival. I never hit it right when I visited her to go. I LOVE garlic!

The garlic festival always fell on my b-day! July 31st. Prob the only tradition I miss since we moved to Tahoe. My aunt has a business In Morgan hill - def nor Cali. Don't let anyone tel ya otherwise;-))))

Hi, I don't think I've posted in this thread before but I am from Acampo. I just got started in chickens last April. I went in on a friend's order to get 6 SLW. Well, wouldn't you know it, my friend offered me one of the extra chicks in the order, a barred rock, and I couldn't say no. Right off the bat that "chicken math" got to me. LOL Then I was looking around on craigslist and found an ad for some local orpingtons and went and picked up three of them, two of which ended up being roosters. We are enjoying our chickens immensely and now I want to hatch some out and add some that lay different colored eggs too. The problem I have now is that I need a bigger coop. :)
