Hi, I don't think I've posted in this thread before but I am from Acampo. I just got started in chickens last April. I went in on a friend's order to get 6 SLW. Well, wouldn't you know it, my friend offered me one of the extra chicks in the order, a barred rock, and I couldn't say no. Right off the bat that "chicken math" got to me. LOL Then I was looking around on craigslist and found an ad for some local orpingtons and went and picked up three of them, two of which ended up being roosters. We are enjoying our chickens immensely and now I want to hatch some out and add some that lay different colored eggs too. The problem I have now is that I need a bigger coop. :)

welcome , everyone needs either bigger or more coops lol

Just set 10 Black / blue copper Marans 2 Black Penedesenca x Black Copper Marans and 8 Black Penedesenca for a friend .
He wanted a mix of Dark layers for his laying flock.
I have a local friend I gave a Black Penedesenca rooster too from Sand Hill. She bred it to her Black Copper hens. So I grabbed a few eggs of that for him too.

I think he will like the color between the Marans and Penedesenca

Welcome ! Coops all need to expand!

Thank you for the welcome. :)
Those chocolate eggs are definitely beautiful. That's one of the colors I would like to add at some point. My sister, who's in Idaho, has had chicken for a number of years now, and she has quite the variety. She's even bred some olive eggers now.

I forgot to answer the frizzle frazzle question. Frazzle feathers are brittle and have a v shape the side of the feather is tweaking as well as the length of it.

Or that is my understanding. I only read the explanation once so I could be totally wrong. But it is the brittle that is the biggest problem.

No! It drives me crazy someone corrects me no matter what I call them. Sounds like your breeding plans are dovetailing with mine!

Upcoming frilkie boy.
Gorgeous cockerel <sigh>
Unfortunately, no breeding here - only egg production. My hubby works rotating 12 hr shift at an oil refinery. Roos would be very unappreciated while trying to sleep during the day.
Sooo - I've become a hatch addict instead. Love my broody girls & incubators. I enjoy growing out the peepers & maybe keeping 1 special one.

I woke up to 4 UofA Blues hatched. It looks like on black, two splash and one blue. I have a lot of pips!

Oh man...I'm glad I don't live near you Ron. You'd probably think I was a stocker and get a restraining order. But, I'd just be stocking your chickens.

That is actually why so many toy breed dogs are so horrible to be around--if our boxer acted like some people's tiny dogs, she would've been long gone! (She's a combo of a puppy, a cat, and a stuffed animal:lau ) (Oh, and a chicken pooper scooper:sick )

Haha! I have two boxers and their exactly like that jus add that they think their lap dogs! ;)
