Well I am bummed. I have shingles. Its rather horrible. I'm stuck at home wishing I could rip part of my face off. Yes it's that bad. I'm only 36 and a nursing mother so it took a while before they diagnosed (too young for shingles) and then I can't have the antiviral (nursing) so I'm stuck miserable.

What kills me is that I'm bored and my incubator doesn't work. I can't even shop for eggs. Shopping for eggs is so much fun! There you have it. I have shingles and I'm mad that I can't shop for eggs.
So sorry that you have them. I have a friend who suffers horribly with them.

Also sorry that you can't shop for eggs! That would definitely provide you with some needed distraction from the pain.

:lau   Please film that for us!  That would be a winner on America's Funniest Home Videos!  Attack guineas!!!

I really need to. They can be such a pain when they start squawking, but they earn their keep in alarms and comedic relief. The sad thing is that the regular driver just steps out, talks to them and goes on his merry way. The vacation driver stands on the truck step hollering for me or honks his horn - won't step out of the truck until we come out. I've told him that they don't bite or physically attack people, but he won't believe me. So they chase him, but not my regular guy. It is almost like they enjoy terrorizing the guy or try to show him that THEY are the only ones allowed to make that much racket. Barnyard bullying at its most extreme :).

Animal behavior is so interesting! I swear that my rooster knows that his crowing annoys my husband. Whenever George is in the backyard, he crows almost non-stop. DH is worried that the neighbors will be upset with the crowing. I have had to resort to putting him in his kennel in the garage for a while so we can get work done. (It's the rooster that goes in the garage not the husband!) I've caught DH chasing the rooster around the yard trying to spray him with the hose. Hmmm...no wonder Zorro crows at him!

Now that I think about it, there must be something scary about my easy going hubby!

Our dog is so scared of him and my youngest son (22 yrs 6 ft 4 in). She is a nervous wreck when they are around and paces back and forth constantly. She is a rescue dog so we thought that she must have been abused by a man before being dumped in a ditch as a puppy. We have tried all kinds of positive and negative things to change her behavior. We have had her for almost 2 1/2 yr with no improvement. Then yesterday, I read something that Cesar Millan wrote about fearful dogs and I realized that we have been adding to the problem by constantly correcting her when she exhibits this fearful behavior. Last night, we totally ignored her when my son came home from work. She barked at him and paced back and forth complaining the whole time but eventually settled down on her dog bed with a humph. It was almost like she said, "Well if you don't care that the scary man is sitting next to you then he must not be that scary after all, at least this time." It will be interesting to see how it works with DH on Friday!

I just received some Serama eggs I ordered from eBay. The package is clearly marked FRAGILE but the mailman just tossed the box down on the granite counter top at my work.......I'm sure the look on my face was horrified/shocked/po'ed. Poor little eggs. None are broken however. Seller packaged them in thick foam with holes cut in for the eggs. Foam on top and bottom also. They got here from Washington state in 2 days.

I love it when pwople combine ancient and modern technology!

I agree! It actually makes sense though. Before there were antibiotics, people didn't just do nothing. They used herbs and oils to help with ailments. I think with modern medicine, people envision that to build a strong immunity you don't take antibiotics and just suffer through it. At least with ancient treatments, you can build immunities while easing the suffering. It's what people did in the "old days". Hopefully there can be some relief.

Wow! Dont you love that?? Marked FRAGILE and they still don't get it. I ordered some FRAGILE gum paste flowers for a wedding cake. The UPS threw it over my 8 ft fence, even though I had a sign on the fence of where to safely put it. I read a post by someone that they actually have better shipments on eggs if they DONT mark fragile. That amazes me.
It's like on the movie "A Christmas Story" with the lamp marked Fragile. "Fra-GEE-leh!" It must be Italian!"

They just can't comprehend

Yay! Your eggs arrived! The bantam buff Brahma eggs my friend sent me from Michigan, that were packaged that way in foam all hatched but one. Hope you get a good hatch with these

Did you take pictures of the packing for the Great Egg Shipping experiment thread?

I hope they hatch for you!

It really is fascinating to watch animals interact with each other and with us. We have sort of the opposite with my hubby's Faverolle rooster. He is in love with my DH and pretty much ignores me other than screeching at me to hurry up and feed him. As soon as DH walks out, Felipe (he named his own birds, not me) starts showing off and trying to share tidbits with him. It's really cute. My free-ranging, one-eyed, cross-beaked charity case Ameraucana rooster adores me. He follows me around, will jump up in my lap and show me the best goodies to eat - bugs, yum. He barely tolerates DH, stalking him and will walk between us keeping DH away from me by bumping him over.

We also have a dog that was terrified of men when we found him as a stray. Took us a long time to get him to understand that my Dad & DH are the good guys. It was pretty much the same technique, just ignoring his bad or scared behaviour and reinforcing the positive. When he would allow either of them to pet him or even approach him, we would make a big deal of it. Lots of praise, treats and affection. He's 14 years old now and adores both of them. He's still leary of strangers, but that's ok. He came a long way.
