my splash laced red Wyandotte did this to me today! She was getting out of the nesting box so I reached for the eggs! This one hurt!
That looks painful! My bantam BLRW pullet did that to me when she first started laying. She also screamed her head off when I took the eggs!

If you are on the Ester Hatchalong thread you maybe saw this but here is my latest attempt to get my girls to go broody.

hoping the additional golf balls and the curtains do the trick.

They incubated pretty steady, but the humidity in the hatcher I'm having to kind of guess at. The new hygrometer/thermometer won't be here until tomorrow at least. I am using the slight amount of condensation as a guide.
Good luck! Hope lots of chicks hatch for you overnight!

I am meeting Kmollyhughs in the morning with about 30 chicks, 3 bantam buff Brahma hens and 3 dozen eggs. All heading off to Nevada. Good thing some are staying here or I would have some terrible chick withdrawal!

Looks nice! Would it help to make it darker though?

You are right I should have labled the pics better. I pulled the curtain back for the photo so it will be darker normally. I hpe it is dark enough. the other pic shows both down and you can barely see the golf balls in there.

The steady temperature of the cabinet will bake a big difference with the Marans. The humidity level should be fine too.

80% is a good hatch rate!
Thanks, Ron! This current hatch was incubated to day 18 in my cabinet hatcher. I tried to turn the eggs at least 3 time/day but some days we are out of the house the whole day. I am really curious to see how successful it ends up being. So far, of the 8 blue eggs set, 1 has hatched and 6 have pips. Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mixes are great hatchers!
