California - Northern

This one is feather-legged, but some of the feathers on the feet look yellow. These are the ones from the very light Marans eggs. Is it OK for the leg feathers to look yellow at this age?
The other 2 pips have not done anything more yet. If they are not progressing by morning I will make a small hole in the membrane. These are in the Farm Innov with the hinky hygrometer. I have been trying to keep the humidity so it just makes a very slight amount of condensation on the windows. It looks perfect right not but I expect the humidity will drop overnight. I am thinking about adding more moisture before bed. Would it be better to have it slightly high when I go to bed or risk it running too low by morning.
I'm always amazed at how much they change in looks as they mature. I just finished taking pics of my chicks. My black Langshans will mature to be completely black but as chicks they have lots of yellow and some white. I won't get all of the pics edited until tomorrow but here is one of my Langshan chicks. The one with the green band was the last one out. I had bandaids on his feet for three days because of crooked toes. He/she also is slightly straddle legged but every day it improves. He/she is a fighter and so cute!

my splash laced red Wyandotte did this to me today! She was getting out of the nesting box so I reached for the eggs! This one hurt!
Owww! Some of my hens could care less if I mess with them while they are laying or if I take their eggs from underneath them. Then I have this tiny Lavender Ameraucana whose screech sounds like something out of a nightmare! She fluffs up to twice her size and I have to make sure that I keep my hand away from her front end! She would be a fierce mama if she ever did go broody!

Yeah!!!!! I still have just the 2 pipped and 1 hatched, but it sounds like we are both at the same stage...

How many do you have in the incubator? I have 9 blue eggs that are most likely Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mixes but could be PP/Ameraucana mixes, 9 black Langshan from my new trio, and 9 brown eggs that are Pita Pinta or Pita Pinta/? mixes. I just noticed that one of the brown mystery eggs has pipped!

I've got a fowl tempered BSL that has broken many eggs while I try and take them from under her. I try to shield them with my hand but some how she gets the egg. If she gets ahold of me she does the croc. death roll trying to tear the skin off my hand.

Too cute! That really threw me in the beginning too when I had yellowish chicks that would feather out coal black.

Okay soo i may finally get seramas whn i have money. they would be pet quality coming from a lady in AZ.how well would twp adult birds ship?
Also my experiment with the egg with the window in it id growing very well its really. cool to see it grow

They are gorgeous! That is such a beautiful breed.
Thank you! They make me smile! They don't rank at the top for egg production but not at the bottom either. We are getting 8-10 big eggs/week from the two pullets who have only been laying eggs for 7-8 weeks. The are a slow to mature breed but the meat is excellent even from older birds.
