That is so sad!

Are the rest of them doing ok? they will often keep dying for up the three days after rough shipping.

Where where they for all that time?

Thanks! If you are on the hatchalong thread you may have already seen these but this is what Tom and I spent yesterday afternoon doing. We still have the Eastern and Southern walls to do but doesn't this look like the sort of place you might like to raise a family??

Ol flowerpot Norma has been sitting in the nest box for hours on end but then getting bored mid afternoon and joining the flock. She also has plucked some breast feathers so with any luck she will soon decide that the only thing that will make her happy is to become a mama...then I hope the fever will spread through the coops.

The other day Jamie Lee Curtis decided to audition for the roll of hood ornament

Great job on the coops! It's such a good feeling of accomplishment to create new housing.
My favorite picture of the day though... love this hen - OWNING this hood! LOL

Hi Amy Beth! How are the Barnies doing today?
Wow that tag feature is handy!

We lost two more yesterday afternoon. But 2 pullets and the roo are still plugging along. 1 pullet is acting perky and dashing around like nothing happened. The crops on the other two aren't very squishy now and they are still standing still and not very active but more they are occasionally moving about and singing. Which is WAY more than they did yesterday. I'm feeding them scrambled duck egg for now and offered some chick grit in it. I figured out what happened- they were being fed out of the mixed food all the other birds get fed (it's flockraiser mixed with whole and cracked grains). They have never been offered grit and they haven't been on the ground (just in my coop in a large dog kennel crate). I am guessing they have been eating this food for a little more than week. whole grains in crops devoid of grit in chicks. Nice attentive chicken mom. :( I feel so awful. I have begun adding my 7 yo daughter in the chore loupe the past month and I think that's where the breakdown started happening. She had no idea they couldn't have whole wheat, oat etc grains. :(
