Our internet is also terrible. They have some issue and it goes in and out. We are switching to uverse today.

I use the paper cartons in my Farm Innovators for hatching, partly because they only take up 1/3 to 1/2 of the floor space. I have a little cardboard divider I put in next to the hatching carton (held in place by toothpicks that go thru the wire floor) and then I can quickly move hatched chicks over there to dry/fluff without bumping into the ones that haven't hatched yet.

I have been using the paper cartons because I can trim them to the number I need and that leaves more floor space for the hooligans. But I was thinking that if I have a bigger hatch than 25 eggs, these plastic trays might be good. I also could just transport them from incubating in the cabinet to the Genesis without removing them from the tray. I am really trying to not open my Genesis in the middle of the hatch. I am going to try one hatch with the eggs on their sides instead of big end up. The breeder who sold me my new Langshan trio hatches that way. I'm wondering if it will work better for my big Langshan eggs. There is such a learning curve to this hatching business!

If they were not Mareks tumors, they may be from a new cancer causing virus that is not Mareks. There was an email about it from a yahoo group. A Vet said it is devastating because it hits Two and younger year old Hens in their prime of laying.

Do you use Soy based feed? It likely will not stop virus cancers but it might help to not use Soy Protein.

I went and looked. Had the Tumors been Mareks based, they would have said, right? The vet that called said the Tumors shouldn't affect the rest of the flock. I use Modesto Milling Non GMO Organic Soy based feed. I can try switching to their non-soy but then I have to increase their protein as the non-soy protein isn't as readily available.

I am getting set up for wheat grass. I plan to feed chunks of 2 - 3" grass daily. To cut down on the feed usage while not decreasing protein and nutrients. Also sprouting the BOSS seed from Costco and planning to feed a scoopful of that daily. I just thought that I would see if changing nutrient sources helped. Anxious about these results because it is truly alarming! Maybe the Oxine (which I ordered before this bird died) will help sanitize any virus that is lurking. I know many viruses float on moist air waves but I plan to spray everything including fence posts.

Anyway, I have to go get this bird wrapped. Found her last night during evening chores and I couldn't do anything but remover her from the pen. Evenings are crazy with 4 children to take care of!

The games on here are mostly homeschooling people who need interaction. Parents know its prety safe. Chicken people may be crotchety but very unlikely to be off!

Pet im always wrooried those are too sharp for chicks. But I know people use them.

Liz that is red to be a girl but if its not crowing you may still have hope. If I figure out how to get you a showgirl we can get you more eggs mebby.

I have no evidence of Cocci. I wonder if the benefits outweigh the hazards of medicating when there is no need? I'd hate to upset the balance of a healthy intestinal flora system if there was no need! I'm sure with the testing they ran they'd have noticed Cocci. I'm just learning here so bear with me if I'm way off target.

I have almost 60 (*apparently* but looks are deceiving!) healthy chickens none of which are over 2 yrs old. I'm trying to control the urge to just run out and throw medicines at them! None of them looks skinny, sickly, wheezy, snotty, or even have bugs since I just finished the treatment for bugs. All clean, bug-free skin

I know because I checked last night. I have a few rough looking from coming out of a molt and some growing back feathers from a rough rooster but other than those few running around sporting blue kote, we keep a beautiful flock! This loss is most bizarre.

I've culled really hard for the breeding programs so losing a pullet is rough. I only had 3 EOB pullets!
