California - Northern

Well we have the coop setup in the back yard just waiting for my month old delawares to be ready for outside. Its a small coop from Costco. Not a bad deal for something to start with. My wife decided she wanted a couple buff orpingtons so we now have 2 babies in the house a way from the others in the garage. I will have to build a larger Hen house and caged in run over the next month or two as the new ones are growing up and the others make the transition to outside. Ive noticed right away that the orpingtons are very different from the dele's.

The Delewares are getting too big for the box now. They are about 4.5 weeks and all have most of their head feathers in. Very little down left. Do you think I might be able to transition them to the new coop this weekend or do I really need to wait another 4 weeks. I can probably put a light in the hen house at night.

Good Morning! It is great to hear your plans. Do you have a coop design and plans yet?

Chicken justice was served today. While getting tired of my Mille Fleur roo attacking my ankles, I fished him out from the flock. The flock decided that they'd had enough too, so they started attacking him. Even the scary cat Friizle roo jumped on the band wagon and pecked away at him. I managed to despur him so hopefully he stops thinking he can best me. Next step is the stew pot if he doesn't figure it out. Cute or not.
It is often much more peaceful after a mean one is gone. Without spurs, he will still attack but not hurt as much.

Have you processed before?

She just listed them as "Meat Bird eggs" It was $20 including shipping, so I figured...why not? She had a couple of good feedbacks. We shall see how they hatch! She did sya they mature at about 16 weeks at 3 1/2 to 5 lbs. It was post #2451 of 2468 on the "For Sale: Just In Time Hatching Egg AUCTION and BIN Thread - Page 246". It was just the first couple of sentences at the top of the post...they rest of it was about other eggs for sale.

Can Silkies have feathers that aren't "Silky" ? I hatched 2 sets of "Silkie/ Frizzle" eggs. There are possibilties of pure Silkies, frizzles and a mix with them. So are these non-Silkied Silkies, or smooth feathered Frizzles, or...? This is one of my 9 week olds, that looks like a Silkie, but her feathers are together. Poor thing can hardly see at all. These are 2 of my 2 week olds. They have the same coloring, but one has separated feathers, and the other doesn't.
Yep smooth sizzles. One might be a mix its an unusual wing pattern for a sizzle. The black one is handsome if its a her we should henseminate it with on of my sizzle or frilkie boys. I love the shape. You see it best with smooth sizzles.

Lizanne, I think she is quite pretty with the smooth feathers, of course I'm in the minority here, I was born without the silkie gene.

All these cute chick picture are torture folks, as hard as I stare I can't find a pip. Looks like these eggs are going to make me wait 5 more days. I guess that's OK since I'll be done with work then.

Question... Do people mind if you take pictures at these shows?

-Kathy

I took pictures at the Heirloom show.

It would be nice if someone like Nikon or Bcollie or Laura took pictures!

I hope someone from the show will take pictures.
