Ah, good point of distinction. But I think that I'd prefer quail on the ground to I can watch them scratch around & dust like the chickens.
More food for thought, though...

Quail would be interesting my sister in laws father had some but said they were more difficult to deal with than the chickens.
Raising for meat though might be a different matter.

I remember something a long time ago about how Peregrine falcons eggs were becoming soft because of DDT and they were trying to find ways to ensure that they could hatch. Not that it really applies here but maybe some of the techniques they figured out might translate.

He might have had new world quail. Coturnix are crazy easy. Bobwhites are nuts and californians I think need to be in pairs? And permits in cali.

Thank you! I was happy with the hatch, but to see them fully formed made me think about the cause. I'm thinking because they were marans and humidity perhaps too high.
So you put yours that are shipped on the Brinsea turner, correct? I probably should be hand turning the Genesis ones for sure. 3 x's a day good?

Misting chicken eggs? I'll give it a go. Now on the ducks, I wasn't sure about how much to mist. I definitely would be wondering on the marans. What would you recommend: a minimal, light misting?
