California - Northern

Well...my Genesis did NOT get here today like it was supposed to. Here is the scanning history: 4/09/2014 - Wednesday 1:29 am Departed FedEx location ELLENWOOD, GA - 4/08/2014 - Tuesday 2:04 pm Arrived at FedEx location ELLENWOOD, GA - 4/07/2014 - Monday 9:24 pm Arrived at FedEx location SAVANNAH, GA 3:02 pm Picked up SAVANNAH, GA - 4/04/2014 - Friday 2:33 pm Shipment information sent to FedEx As you can see...labeled 3 days before it actually was picked up in Savannah, GA......arrived in Ellenwood, GA the next day, then departed a day later....then nothing for 2 days. It was supposed to be here today!!!! I had to set the Mottled AM eggs under 2 broodies so they would not be too old by the time it gets here. I called FedEx about 9 AM to find out what was going on. They, of course, knew nothing...just repeated what the tracking showed, but said they would put a trace on it. I called back at 3 and it had not even been assigned to anyone to trace!. Talked to a supervisor and she was able to trace it. She said it is arriving a day later than promised and should be delivered tomorrow. I hope the eggs will be OK!!! :he :rant :smack AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH.....OK...done venting now
you are pretending they are peafowl and putting them under a broody for 10 days! You are very scientific.
Ok - so here are the 6 chicks. All were marked as chocolate orpington: 5 have barred markings on their wings & yellow spots on their head - the one at top right is the one with no barring but more yellow on the chest, no head spot. I think that's a pullet too. This pic is better of their combs. The black-wing chick is now 2nd from the left. Now I notice some difference it their leg/foot color - 2 are more grey & the other 4 are more pink. Gaah! Confused... @chiqita Put on my thick gloves and braved DefCon5 again - 2 showgirls (1 yellow & 1 silver/yellow) & 1 Bresse hatched so far & more pips. Yay!! :weee :ya :weee
Wooo! I'm guessing you name chickens like I do and let there personality dictate the name with defcon ha!

[/URL] Got my babies today! 2 CLB pullets 4 FBCM 2 pullets 2 roos if her feather sexing is correct. All hatched yesterday.

Sorry for the bad photos and posting, on my cell phone.

And because I can't seem to upload more than 1 photo...my favorite maran so far (but its only been 2 hours)
They are all ADORABLE!!

Quote: I know...right??!!

Quote: Agreed!

Quote: Forest Ranch as a good 35-45 minute drive for me. Close as the crow flies, but I have to drive Chico first and then up 32.

It had never occurred to me to blow out the eggs. What a great idea!

Here is some of today's take. Except the wind egg. That was yesterday. All but the top two (the brown and light blue) are pullet eggs. This is so fun!

Yep, most of the time.
Hence, I have "Goofy" (a polish of course), "Porky" (a Saipan whose always first for treats), and "Lady Sarah" (a proper, genteel Speckled Sussex).
I have a bantam black cochin who was sweet to people but completely intolerant of other chicken around her babies - she's Texas, as in, Don't Mess With...
This cuckoo marans, who hadn't told me her name yet, is broody for the first time. She doesn't growl or fluff up - just NAILS you with her beak once you're in range. She is lightning fast & bites and twists hard enough to make you bruise & bleed. She's, like, Ninja Chicken Mom - silent & deadly. Never had one like this before.
My 2 silkies growl some. The turken fluffs super-huge & gets vocal. The BLRW squeals & fluffs & pecks.
My fav right now is my banty grey wheaten EE. She fluffs to 2xs her size & screams. My DH will go in to the coop just to mess with her. Ha.

Wow! Is that on at the bottom really blue or more blue/green? Very pretty all of them.

So, one of the newly hatched chicks acts like it can't stand... It's body just goes forward with his legs and it lays on it's belly.

I'm not sure what to do for it.

They are all beautifule but I especially love the olive egg. Maybe because I have had an OE yet.
Quote: My bantam black cochin was they same way...only she was also like that with chicks that she thought were the wrong color. She has a new home now...

I think your cuckoo marans is telling you her name is "Ninja"....
